View Full Version : A humane kill?

Nemo, a three year old clarki clown, has gone through a lot in his life. Been through four tank moves, survived my learning curve and lived through a ich infestation and now marine pop-eye. Sadly though I think the pop-eye may have done him in. His eyes are now sunken and I can see through them. His gills appear to be in rough shape and now appears to be getting small blood blisters on his body. So I think it's time to put him down. What's the best way?

I don't know if this is true or not..... When we go fishing, if the fish are alive when they are ready to be fileted, we take the filet knife and put it straigh through their brain (kinda above their eyes), and it seems they are immediately killed... I don't know though honestly... Sorry to hear about that... I hate when I lose things, I get sick to my stomach...

don't I know it, it makes me so mad at myself and sick to my stomach, too.
The dwarf lion in my avatar got popeye and then busted her eyes when another fish was hassling her. I took her out and froze her. I know that oxygen saturates the water at lower temps, so I was hoping that her metabolism would slow and that she'd get a kind of high from the excess oxygen. Who knows how it really is, though.

naw, when we go trout fishing I have no issue hittin' um with my swiss army knife. My wife even learned to clean them on our last trip. I don't think anything tastes better than fresh trout.

As gruesome as it is, decapitation is the quickest method. You can also overdose them with anesthesia (isofluorane or clove oil).

We put ours in the freezer when and if we need to do something like that. Ziplock baggy and freezer.

A vet would freeze anything coldblooded to put it to sleep, that is your best bet.

water is more humane, dry is like just tossing it on your table.

This is a serious and sad request, obviously gogregorson's fish mean more to him, not really funny to start joking about it.

Couple Methods:
1. Knife, Razorblade through the brain - Quick
2. Hit with Blunt Object - Quick
3. Toilet - Freshwater Suffication, not so great
4. Freezing - Doesn't seem like such a bad idea, painless? - Long
5. Baking Soda - Suffication
6. Hydrogenperoxide - Suffication
