couple of questions

New to the hobby got a hand me down 55gal from a buddy who was moving, first what is the best hang on protein skimmer, the one he had for a better choice of words, sucks. Also I don't plan to dive right into keeping corals just a FOWLR tank and am wondering which is better T5's or compact fluorescents.

The best hang-on protein skimmer on the market IMO is the AquaC Remora. I have the AquaC Remora pro and it works great on my 75 gallon sps reef. Also, I have heard from many others that they have excellent customer service. It may cost you $200 but its worth it to get a quality skimmer!

As far as T5s vs PC I've heard some people say T5s are better but this answer probably changes with who you ask. I haven't seen any articles comparing PAR values of T5s versus PC so I don't think you'll get a definate answer. I currently have a 4x24 watt T5 Current USA fixture that I like very much.

T5s with quality reflectors are hands down better than PCs. T5s that don't have individual parabolic reflectors are probably still better but not by as much of a margin.

Really most all hangons are inferior to sump models. Remora is pretty hit or miss, you can find just as many people that have owned them and hated them as you can that like them.....

I am a remora hater... I had better luck with my seaclone than with the remora.

doesnt euro reef make a hang on? I would go with that or a turbo flotor hang on before I would do a remora.

Really? I'm curious if you were having any problems with your Remora or did it just suck right out of the box? Was it a pro and what pump were you using with it?

Maxijet 1200 for a feed pump. It was a regular remora on a 40 breeder, and it just never did crap. I eventually just gave up and put the seaclone and the backpac on it, and it stayed nice and clean :)

I've got an aqua C on my 50 FOWLR and it skims like MAD. but then again, I had a prizm on it before... heh

I had a prism once.....(I cant believe I just admitted to purchasing a piece of junk equimpent).
