Hello folks,

Anyone want to take a shot at ID'ing the coral in the picture below? I know thats an almost impossible request, but perhaps someone has seen something like this before...

It looks very similar to zoanthids but each polyp is about the size of a pin head, 2mm diameter on the largest. I'll trying to find out where the rock was harvested, which may be useless, but it was base rock when I bought it. It is currently under moderate-high light in moderate-high indirect flow, and appears to be flourishing. Other than that, what you see is what I know about it...

Both montipora and porites appear to be good guesses. I can't say one way or another with the pictures I've seen so far. I will apparently have to wait until it starts to grow off of the rock, and then it should be identifiable by the finger/branch growth pattern. IF it ever grows off the rock, that is.

Thanks for the help folks,
Marty

I believe that it is an encrusting Goniopora or Alveopora. Kinda hard not seeing the corallites though.
