I recently bought four- 2 month old dwarf seahorses and what I think is a black Kuda. And of course to compliment the new tank, I had to get some gorgonians and random types of macroalgae.
Thanks to SLPReefer for the great algae trade!
First, here's one of the little guys. I was able to get some really ususual colors: two yellow dwarfs, one "red" dwarf, and one green:

BTW: my camera isn't so great, so forgive the fuzzy pictures
Oh yeah- and is that drastic of a color change normal? The little guys didn't do that.

All of them are tank raised. However, since the little guys are so small, I feed them live brine shrimp that I hatch. They eat like mad!
The Kuda eats frozen mysis shrimp. He was eating pretty well last night (~4 whole shrimp) but I haven't gotten him to eat yet today.

Thanks! The polyps on both of those frags you gave us are continually out. The LJ purple monster is growing very well. The white portion turned alittle brown, but the blue tips are extremely bright. And the yellow guy (sorry- Nam would remember the name) is doing even better. I think that he has doubled in mass.

Looking nice. Colors may change if they are like the Reidi. Did you get any pairrs, the pics look like female?

I haven't posted in a day or two because I had a near tank crash... Unfortunately either the gorgonians or the feather duster decided that it wasn't happy and decided to secrete stress mucus everywhere...
The nitrites were at 0.25 when I checked them, and as you can guess, the seahorses were in pretty bad shape. I was able to scoop them out and make a makeshift quarantine tank inside my larger tank. They are doing alot better now, but for a while I was worried that the big one wasn't going to make it. I need to get them eating again, and they should be fine (Hopefully!)

The two dwarf sets are pairs- two males and two females. Although I'm not very good at sexing seahorses yet, I think that the larger one is a female. Once I get my tank in order, I'll have to find her a mate.
I also noticed your avatar- you have some awesome seahorses!
If your interested in seahorses, Wet World just got in 2 yellow (pregnant mated pair) and one incredible orange seahorse. It's worth a trip over there just to see them!

Hey Robyn, Sexing seahorses is pretty easy once you know what to look for. The easiest is looking at the stomach and how it it curves in towards the tail.
Thanks for the comments on my tank, I do like the seahorses, they are so cool to watch ,very calming.

What is your setup? Size, water changes, filter etc? Since you were over and mentioned tha my aquapod would work well for horses, I've been thinking....
Thinking never ends up being cheap
Glad you like the macro!

Thanks! I'll try to get a few picks of my new seahorses up pretty soon too. Now they are awesome. However, as far as the "scuba steve"... gulp... um.... well....
The real reason why the airstone is in there is because the seahorses like the oxygen in the tank near saturation, and I have found that they are way more active with it in.
As far as the sps: your offer is so tempting! I really feel that I have no idea about sps corals still. The more I learn, the more my mind boggles, so we would love to hear your advice. The good news is that Nam's sps is growing like mad and he just got a few new ones, but they have yet to fully color up. Maybe he'll want to trade- I have a feeling that you'd really like some of them, and since we don't know much yet, something that is a little easier to take care might be a better fit for us.
As an update, the newest dilemma is that I've been hatching brine shrimp without decapsulating them, and now I have an infestation of hydros. Supposedly they are hitchhikers with the brine shrimp eggs and you have to do a bleach and dechloronator treatment on the eggs before hatching to kill them off. You can tell that they are in your tank by a looking at your glass- if you see little, white, round dots with spiny looking legs (which I mistakenly IDed as baby brittle stars), you have hydros. Now I need to get some sort of dog medication to dose the tank.

Amazing about seahorses in the home aquarium. In the wild they are in the turtle grass and algae flats, absolutely no current, turbid water. Put a mask on, put head in water, take head out of water and take in mask, as it is like looking into a pot of pea soup.
