Unfortunately I was unable to make the meeting this evening but we did go to the Como Zoo and Conservatory this morning. It was a lovely day...
First real shots with the D300 and 60mm Macro.
Photobucket really takes away from the quality of these shots so these are from Flickr...

Looks like the 60 is a very nice sharp lens. Nice photos!
Do they have the giant Victoria waterlilies again this year? Those are really amazingly cool, and also amazingly spiny!

Thanks everyone. I am truly blown away at what this camera/lens can do. I've had a D70 for almost 4 years and it is like the training wheels came off with this upgrade.
pspfishlady - PM me what you are looking for. I've done family pics for others and am shooting a wedding in a few weeks. At one point I had hoped to get into doing portraits but it is tough money...
Sean - This is the Nikon 60mm Macro. It is a fixed focal length (only 60mm) so no zoom. This is the lens I have:
http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product/Camera-Lenses/1987/AF-Micro-NIKKOR-60mm-f/2.8D.html
I believe you purchased the D60. If so, this lens would not autofocus on your camera. You would need the AF-S lens here:
http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product/Camera-Lenses/2177/AF-S-Micro-NIKKOR-60mm-f/2.8G-ED.html
The AF-S has the silent wave motor in the lens. Additionally it has more features than the one I have. Of course, it costs more too.
capman - Are you talking about the lily pads that are about 3' across or so? If so I did see them but we didn't go over to that side and do any shooting. They did look pretty cool though. Side note, I downloaded LR2 today to process these. I had used the beta of LR1, used the demo until it expired and forgot how much I enjoyed using it. Seems less buggy now and quite a bit more powerful. Looks like a good investment.
Thanks again for all the complements!

Here are a couple of more shot with a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 zoom on the D300 body.

You don't normally want to handhold @200mm and 1/160th of a second. I actually pressed the front of the lens against the glass and then pressed my face to the back of the camera body to support the camera/lens as steady as possible. This is a pretty heavy duty (all metal) lens and I had no concerns with the lens or camera being damaged.
