so i've further mastered my plumbing ability on my new 120. now i'm not a fan of threaded fittings by any means, I try do do all cement fittings w/ unions for water tight seals, BUT; my new tank came w/ 3/4 inch threaded fittings for the return bulkheads. I used pipe compound for pvc as I was told it will give a better seal than thread tape. low and behold, a hour after turning on the pump, all my cement fittings a perfect but wouldn.t you know, the threaded fittings are dripping water. What have you guys used for a good seal? is it better to use thread tape with these bulkheads? Do I have to get slip bulkheads? they make these things so there has to be a way to get a good seal with them, what is it?

I used the pipe compound without issue, and I have a ton of water moving through those bulkheads. I would agree go with lots of tape :)

I've had better luck with tape for pvc and dope for metal thread. For tape, I think usually you want to wrap between 3-4 times around the thread and try to start and end at the same spot. I usually tighten as much as possible without cross threading. For dope, I usually give it an overnight cure time to be safe.
