feed an appropriate diet, and soak everything in garlic. Do you have a UV sterilizer by chance?

Sounds like the first signs of ich. Do you feed him any form of seaweed? If not I would run to the grocery store and get some nori.

Also what is your temp at? Assuming it is ich, the higher the temp of the tank the shorter the life span of ich. But don't change your temp drasticly right away, increase the temp over a few days.

No I dont have a uv setrilizer and my temp is at 80 F right now I do feed him spriluina and have some julians green seeweed will this work?

I would not raise the temp to more that 81. I am not familiar with the seaweed that you have, but I would put it on a clip and try it. if it is not made for aquarium use I would rinse it first. That will help boost his immune system.

Oh yea, use that. I would really start to be concerned if he stops eating.

pretty much just keep him well fed, and if it is ich, as long as he is eating he will beat it :).

what he is doing is called "glancing".... typically it is caused by a topical skin irritation. Double check all your water parameters and make sure everything is inline. A lot of African cichlids will do this when the water is too soft for their liking.

Don't assume it is crypt, I know that is a very tempting thing to jump to the conclusion of, but it could be a number of many different topical issues. If you want to do more than just feed well and keep water paramaters great you can go ahead and do a fresh water dip for the fish. Very easy to do, and not a bad thing to do for almost every fish we buy for our tanks.

how you do a freshwater dip?

get the fresh water up to the same temp as the saltwater, put the fish in there for 5 minutes. if the fish has flukes you will see them come out of the eyes and gills. its pretty handy. i do it for all my fish.

The water needs to be the same ph, and temp as the saltwater you have the fish currently in. You don't have to go completely fresh, you can bring the water up to about 5 ppt to take advantage of some of the buffering ability of the salt mix. I keep the fish in the freshwater dip until I see the fish really laboring, some fish react differently in a dip. If you aren't sure if you can identify a laboring fish, then just keep them in there between 3-5 minutes. Just don't hold me responsible if you have problems.
