Last night I saw my emerald crab for the first time in weeks. He has always been a very well behaved, and never caused a problem, so I didn't think anything of it.

Well this morning he was perched on my millepora waving his claws in the water like Rocky. What the heck... I did a quick check and every thing looked fine... I know that emerald crabs will pick at coral, but usually they cause no problem, and are just digging for food, and algae.

My frogspawn looks a little upset tonight and has a little color loss in the section the crab was picking at, but I think it will be fine. The millepora has a few less hairs on it, but seems fine. Sooo.....

Is it time to start feeding the crab? Is he all the sudden picking at the corals looking for more food? I know that Emerald crabs can be a problem in the tank, but they also do a lot of good. It is just so funny to see him all the sudden, and causing so many problems. I am getting close to kicking him out! Help..

When I first got my emerald crab all he wanted to do was sit on my millepora and pick at it. Then one day he just stopped and started eating algae and detritus. It wasn't like there wasn't anything else for him to eat at first so who knows. I keep an eye out now but I never see him on my corals any more.

So I'd say that as long as your corals aren't being significantly impacted I'd just let it run its course. If the corals start looking stressed or sick then get him out ASAP.

Step 1. Boiling pot of water.
Step 2. Catch aforementioned emerald
Step 3. Place aforementioned emerald in pot of boiling water.
Step 4. Get small amount of drawn butter
Step 5. Have a teeny tiny eensy weensy snack.

Mine tore up my trumpet coral really bad. If I had been able to get it off I would have torn all but 1 limb off. I havent seen any damage since but if I do the emerald is out!

Two thoughts
1) if you have to get it out it's easy if you can still move the coral it likes it... place it on the sand bed... it will run down for munchies and whamo
2) all of my have been drawn to nori like crack cocaine but be careful it may not eat ANYTHING else after that :D
