View Full Version : Baby what the heck?
I have lots of these little snails and I can't figure out what kind they are. I only have turbo snails and Nassarius snails in my tank so they are not cerith. They could be pyrimid but they are never on any of my other snails and I have no feather duster or clam for them to feast on if they were pyramids. They're only out after dark and can be seen grazing algae of the glass. My best guess is baby nassarius but I heard they rarely spawn in quarantine and I've never noticed egg sacks. What do you guys think, what the heck kinda baby snails are these? The top pic is the unknown snail, the bottom is one of my nassarius........ http://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=217193&stc=1&d=1231660489

This is a supposed pyramidal snail. I'm starting to think they are not Nassu anymore. Notice the concave grooves. :coolmad: Can I get a conformation on this? Can this many pyramid snails be living in my tank but not killing my my snails. I read they prey on turbo snails and feather dusters but I have no problems with either. How can they survive if they are pyramids?????? They are nocturnal and have been witnessed eating on carrion but usually are found grazing algae off the bottom of the glass near the sand, and also all over in the sand. How big are your mystery snails?
I was breaking up my rock tonight and found some that look just like yours inside.
If you look at the last picture I took the snail is positioned between a tweezers, so maybe 1/8"

I have found them as well a while back, there is a website, now I cannot remember it, that ID snails. Basically there were a couple of snails similar to the pyrimid but were of no great threat. that was as big as they got and mainly ate deterious. maybe it was a thread at www.saltwaterfish.com message boards.

I have the same looking snails in my system and only come out at night also, I also have a Crocea clam in the same system and do not bother him or anything else. Mine seem to mostly stay in the corners of tanks and will only crawl about 1/2 way up the glass(maybe a water flow thing).
So they are not baby Nassau then?
