look like a fair deal? about the right amount of cleans for a 40 gallon tank?

$63.99 for

10 Cerith Snails
5 Nerite Snails
5 Margarita Snails
1 Sand Sifting Starfish
5 Red Leg Hermit Crabs
5 Blue Leg Hermit Crabs
1 Medium Cleaner Shrimp
1 Arrow Crab

Is that plus shipping or not?

i would personally just ask other members for mini brittle starfish, amphipods, and mysis shrimp. those are some of the best cleanup crews i can think of because their population reflects how much you feed your tank.

a few hermits are fine cuz their really cool, and few snails are fine as well. cleaner shrimp are cool.

me and satnu split an order from SWF. cleaner, conch, emerald crab, serpent star, snails, etc. I have some brittle stars that've hitched in, but I don't think I've got any mysis. I'd certainly be interested, though, but I'm going to let these cleaners go at it for a while first.

The sand sifting star probably wont make it very long in a 40gal

I hate hermits... they always kill snails for their shells!

I went with 20 ceriths, 20 astreas and 10 nass snails for my 40g. Margaritas are a colder water species, so they will only last about 2-4 months in your tank before becoming pod-heavens (empty shells).

Just my $.02

better to pick 1 type of crabs, they tend to kill each other.

astrea, nass sp., cerith are the best snails IMO

We went without any hermits.

I'd get out the invoice and type out exactly what I got, but I don't want my fiance to see how much I just spent. :-) am I a really bad person for telling her I got these guys from someone who was going to do a fowlr setup?

shhhh! I don't ask her how much she spends on shoes...

okay, she's off takin' a shower, I can pull out the receipt

1 fighting conch
2 emerald crabs
1 cleaner shrimp
4 peppermint shrimp
10-15 nassarius snails--didn't count the split ;-)
15-20 turbo/astrea snails
1 serpent star

a little more $ but seems like a nice little pack. How's everyone weigh in on this one?

Super funny dude. Sound like a true reef junkie. The only hobby closely related to a drug or alcohol addiction. Coral is as expensive as dope or booze and the high only lasts for a short period before your looking for more:lol_hitting: welcome my friend.

oh man, ain't it the truth, ain't it the truth... I can't wait till I get caught speeding, with a few pounds of "kalkwasser" in the backseat, telling the officer I gotta get home to "dose my softies"

gwah. I can't think of a more apodectic word choice.

anyone have some mini brittle starfish, amphipods, or mysis shrimp that they would be willing to part with?

Thanks
Joe

just a quick update, the largest of the peppermint shrimp is already molting... and here's the thing, his markings look EXACTLY like a dull version of the cleaner shrimp's... Same stripes on his back and the two red dots on his tail... no way did I get that lucky did I? Also, would it be a good thing, bad thing, or not a matter thing that he's molting after being in the tank for just about 24 hours? Should I start dosing iodine, or would I be just fine by keeping up a fair schedule of w/c?

upon closer inspection (it was in a hard to see place) it looks like just the cleaner has molted and I'm an idiot. It looked like it was the other shrimp, as it looks a double molting, what the hell, I don't know anything... The closest I come to molting is when I pop a zit.

It's normal for them to molt after introduction. My conch hit the sand and was gone in 15 seconds! Cool to watch. (S)he has now started moving around!

They are going to town on the GHA! YAHOO!

yeah, the conch has been going crazy, it's awesome to watch. The turbo snails are all being rather slow to move, but they're startin' to get on it. The peppermints are gone. Maybe tonight I'll have to stay up with a flashlight to watch these guys get to it.

Pepp's stay in hiding until Cyclop's comes out and then all 4 made an appearance! Cleaner shrimp is a freak. Eats ANYTHING!

As for the star, it just waits for crap to come floating by and then all arms come out and then it goes crazy!

Should have gotten more turbo's. They are going to town on GHA. Not fast enough for me though.

my star is staying mostly hidden, but I think I've found a much smaller one that must've hitched along at some point. In fact, I'm finding freaking TONS of hitch hikers these days... tons of tube worms and spaghetti worms and today I noticed my 'pod population is skyrocketing. The one thing I'm still waiting for is the emeralds; I see them foraging a bit, but I've noticed a few small bubbles...

:rotflmao: hahaha... welcome to the reef world wes..

I cant even help it either. when i buy stuff at the LFS I always subconsiously adjust it about 60% of actual cost for the wife. hiding the reciepts!

good choice on the cleaner package! I just love the fry introduction you get from the pepps and the cleaner is just so friendly.

I just bought a new cleaner about 3 months ago, he was a little guy. less than 3 months and he is up to the same size that my old mature one was for 2 yrs. In the last three months he has been molting very frequently- about every week or two.
