I was just wondering if Zoa's (or are they paly's I can't tell) can ever have too much light? I know that most zoa's do well almost anywhere in the tank, but I have this one group that have not all opened up since I glued them down. Instead only a few open up. Overall they look healthy and well. They all opened up when they were on the sand bed, and then I slowly moved them up to where I ended up gluing them. They all open up when only the atinic lights are on, but when the main lights go on... they close.
Would they not all open up if there was too much light?
My water tests well and everything else seems good.
Here is a picture of them from the sand bed.
How much light do you have? What is your setup? I have Zoa's that look very similar to your colony, did you get them at the OD meeting? I have mine under 4xt-5's in a 55 gallon tank with high flow and about mid tank and they have just exploded, almost doubling in size from the initial 5, now there are 5 new heads that I can see developing!

First off...nice looking zoas! I love bright pink zoas.
The only time I've ever had a problem with zoas staying closed was when they were exposed to too much flow. Being that yours are on the sand bed, I'm assuming that this isn't the case (but it could be). How long have you had them? They may still be acclimating. Where did you get them from? I've had blue zoas from an online order that stayed open for 2-5 days then slowly died off. Perhaps they were just stressed and on their way out before they even got to your tank (part of the hobby). I'm inclined to guess that if your water parameters are in order these will open back up. Lower flow, mid/lower light was always the best recipe for zoa propogation in my experience.
Best of luck!

They were in a higher flow area, but I just moved the power head today. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
I have had the zoa's for 3 or 4 weeks. I got them from another member on the board.
These are in a 12 gallon Nano under T5 lights. Lets see if less flow helps!
