I've searched on RC and TRT with no luck finding an answer.

I'm looking to buy a portable pH meter for use with my discus tank. I'm getting a pH swing from tap water due to CO2. Normal answer is just aging the tap water before adding. Instead of messing around with test kits to determine how long to age the water, I thought a meter would be slick.....but I woudn't mind using it with my nano tank as well. I found a hanna meter that measures pH, EC/TDS, and temp.

All would be nice for a quick check of either tank. I'm trying to figuire out if I can use the EC feature to test for salinity. After googling about EC, it seems that EC is used to measure salinity in electronic testers. I just have no idea if one EC meter can be used to measure both TDS and salinity. My gut says no......

Looking for any advice on meters or help understanding EC in general.  All this reading and my brain is fried. :book2:

Thanks,

Jeff

Likely will not find a meter with the EC range wide enough to do both tap water and salt water at an affordable price.

Thanks for the answer David. That was my guess, but its nice to have someone elses thought.

Does anyone here have experience with these hanna "dip" portables? My past experience is with the standard probe on a wire type. The probe is replaceable but from what I can tell, doesn't have to be stored in solution.
