Hey Everyone,
I just (finally) purchased a ER CS 6-2. I haven't recieved it yet, but should in the next few days. So while I am waiting I figgured I would get the stuff ready to do a gate valve mod on it. The specs on it (from the seller) are the same as the RS 100 series. The ER website shows an outlet size of 40 mm, I assume thats the size of piping I did to do the gate valve mod? And can I do this DIY or does it have to be purchased from ER? Also, I have mesh (Thanks Smeese!!) to do the mesh mod but don't have any experience or tools to do acrylic fab (one site shows making an acrylic disk and tying the enkmat mesh on to the disk). Anyone know of a good way to do the mesh mod on a ER CS 6-2 that's easy and effective?
Thanks!
David

You don't necessarily need the gate valve mod right away to get it running. Best just to wait until you have the skimmer to confirm what size pvc and gate valve you will need then order the parts.

Mesh mod, you cut all the pins off and using fishing line or cable ties to hold it on. I don't think there is any easier way than another to do it. There are plenty of diagrams on RC that show in great detail. I've done the mod on 4 skimmers now and you do get a little better at the mod the more you practice so you may want to reword it after a month or so of use.

Is there a special gate valve I am looking for? Could I find it at menards or is online the best place?
Thanks David!!

Your not going to find a gate valve at Menards or Home Depot. They only carry ball valves which suck for this purpose.

There is a speciality shop where you can get locally but it costs more than doulbe and is more heavy duty than needed I don't recall the name, kathy (Wags) knows.

I got mine from aquatic ecosystems. Savco.com carries them online too but with the credit card fraud security issues there a while back I don't order from them. Can check usplastics.com too they might carry.

i have a 1-1/4 gate valve, never used, very well made with hard plastic valve instead of rubber, i was going to do this to my euro reef skimmer and decided to stay with the factory setupi'll let it go for $10.00, i know i paid more.

This is a 6 months old post.

Twopartsolution.com which is locally now carries the inexpense gate valves. However not as cheap as $10 though.

I don't need one. Just stating this is a 6 month old post. The original thread starter probably has one by now.
