I am setting up a 180 with 2 overflows.I have two 55g and three 20g at my disposal. I am trying to design it so one 20g behind one overflow can be an easy weekly/ bi weekly water change with the worst possible water, that would dump to a 20g behind the other overflow which has the skimmer and possibly another mech filtration. Now the skimmed filterd water will flow into a 55g scrubber then into 55g holding tank (so top offs are less ferquent) with a return to the tank. That gives me about 120 gals behind the tank for a 300g system. comments?

are the 55 gallon tanks glass or acrylic? Almost all glass 55's are tempered. I say almost because there may be some brand I dont know of that does not temper the sides on a 55.

they are glass and one is drilled already which is my current tank that would be the scrubber and the 55 without the hole would be the return tank
