I'm trying to set up m Euro Skimmer but it keeps overflowing even if i have it wide open. I just took it apart twice to make sure that nothing was clogging the intake but nothing has helped. I've tried setting it to be completely open to let the most amount of air through and completely closed to try and cut it off...but neither has had any effect.

I'm in desperate need as I'm becoming really frustrated!! Especially being so new to all of this it makes me feel like if I can't set up a damn skimmer what is going to happen when i get living creatures inside of this thing!!! :swear:

Please help o-wise-ones!

Is it a euro-reef skimmer? If not what brand? Is it in the sump? Have you added anything to the water to make it go nuts?(some additives will make it go nuts.) If it is in the sump how deep is the water in the sump?

yeah euro reef rs-135 with the gate valve mod. i have it wide open to try and reduce the amount of water in the skim but it just fills up and overflows immediately. it is a new tank set up and all that i have added was live sand. the tank is extremely cloudy and i have had it in there for 2 days now without the skimmer running. i haven't added any additives that would make it go nuts...any suggestions?

it is in the sump. 10" of water....but i might try and take some out to bring that back to about 8"

More advice would be great! Thanks

Yep that is more than likely it. I prefer to run them in about 4-6" of water.

is that 4"-6" before or after it starts running?

The water level when the return pump is on. My skimmer is programmed to shut down when the return is off to prevent it from overflowing as the water level in my sump goes way up.

The skimmer running should make no difference in the water level in your sump, but I would say closer to 6 inches.

Depends, I have more water in my skimmer than in my sump

May want to just take the gate valve mod off and use the straight pipe for a while until it calms down. Likely the gate valve is positioned up too high for your water chemistry.

I had to do that with mine quite often after using epoxy putty. After a few days then can put it back on.
