my DC8 is shocking me whenever I touch it. I thought it might have gotten wet, so I let it dry out for a week and hooked it back up today. shocked again. So I figured I would see if it was the fuse? Went to take the top off of it, and wouldnt you know one screw decides to strip out, the one right above A1 (where the fuse is located). Figures... So anyway, 2 questions. First is if anyone has any ideas as to what is causing it to shock, fuse? Grounding wire? Second is how the hell am I supposed to get this screw out?

There is probably a short in it. I would guess from corrosion. As far as the screw, drills have worked for me in the past, but only as a last resort.
When you get it open, keep an eye out for corrosion, loose wires, or wires that are touching the box.

drill + drill bit + easy out = put in a new screw after you have it opened.

Use an easy out if you can get one. Very nice.

I have gotten shocked by my old one, it hurts. I don't really know why, tho. Is it possible that the air is so humid that it is easier for electricity to travel to your skin??

whats an easy out? I am hoping it is not corrosion as the unit was purchased new from neptune about 3 months ago, and has only been used on the new tank. Matt I am glad I bought that one from you now, cause that one is the one that is controlling my heater now.

Its 3 months old? The easy out is returning it, isn't it? Or don't these things have any warranty? I wouldn't drill it if you are able to use the warranty.

Interestingly, they have a recall out for these, don't know if yours is included or if this is old news:

yeah, mine is not in the recall, I checked, and I posted in the sponsor forum, but have not heard anything from neptune yet. I have to get the screw out so I can check the fuse, cause they will ask if I checked the fuse first.

I'm new to SW tanks - but I don't know what a fuse could have to do with shocking you unless its loose and contacting something it shouldn't be.
If its blown, that just means there should be less energized and a lower risk of shocking.

If its shocking you its worse than a blown fuse. I wouldn't bother with it, myself.

thats kinda what I figured. Once I get the stupid thing apart I will look for a loose ground, but I am guessing it is going to need to be serviced :(

Check you ground of the socket... I was experiencing the same thing... it turns out the sockets ground wasn't grounding the DC8... I was sticking my hand into the tank, especially when the T5s were on, and it hurt!

you mean the socket on the wall or the ones in the dc8?
