Tank has been up and running successfully for a week and a day as of right now. Here are some pics I took in the last hour to celebrate the most successful one day set up ever!

Looks cool but how'd you cycle it so quick to stock it already?

very pretty!
How do you like it so far?
Where did you get it?
Where does the salt creep go?
Curious - considering a rimeless also. Key word "considering" ,

Not that I would recommend anyone to do this, but 1/3 the sand was from my old established tank, half the water was, 1/2 the new water was aerated with the old water and the livestock in buckets while the sand was settling in the new tank, lots of fresh bacteria via bio spira, and the rest the sand was new live sand with fresh bacteria. Many, many lbs of previously well established live rock and some activated carbon. Again I do not recommend this, but I was doubling my system volume and based on past experience I was pretty sure I could do it successfully. I did not lose one creature!

The only salt creep I have noticed is on my emperor filter, which I'm sure I'll have to clean regularly. I love it so far!

koralias rock, but I wish they would make some that will work on wave makers that are not their own brand....

Yeah and as strong as the magnets are it barely works on inch thick acrylic, I wouldn't trust anything else. I can't even get magnet cleaners to work on this tank it's so thick!

Scuba, how old is the actual set up and what are the tested parameters at?

Scuba, how old is the actual set up and what are the tested parameters at?
Original was over a year, tested parameters last time I check which was 2 days ago were 0 nitrates, 0 nitrites(or nearly on both), PH was 8.2, calcium was 440-500, my calc has always been on the high end, phosphates 0, I have noticed a bit of gree showing up on the back wall over the last couple of days. I should test again. Everything looks immensely happy though. The green algae only appears to be happening right where the HOB refugium is. I think my two fuges are working though from what I have seen and my skimmers are both pulling out way more than I ever expected. I do know that the amount of evaporation on this take is way beyond what I want and I would like to curb that a little. I add 2-3 gallons of R.O. per day or every other at the very least, the humidity in my apartment is ridiculous which makes me think I need to invest in a dehumidifier which will only cause more evap so I need to research this, any ideas?

I know you guys are shocked and surprised, me I'm grateful I know I have been playing with fire. Reeferbeefer ask Paul he was here on Sunday and we tested, since then everything has been looking better that wasn't and continues to, it also continues to test the same! We used his kits on Sunday, they tested the same as mine!:greenguy:

Evap is really not so bad, it promotes good O2 exchange. PIA but I removed my hoods just so I could obtain it.

I'm not surprised with the results if the tank is a year old.:beerchug:

Maybe I misunderstood. I thought some of the livestock was from another tank running about a year. This tank has been up for less than 2 weeks.
There may not be a cycle because of the established rock, etc but this is still a big change to the system. It needs time to balance itself out and then additions need to be made slowly so the biological systems have enough time to adjust. Even if everything looks "happy" adding too fast can still throw things out of whack and the whole deal can crash.

I should say it's two years old start to finish. If you want the actual story it goes like this. I started out with a 4 year old tank two years ago, when I switch tanks after 3 whole months, I added new live sand, the previous tank had a crushed coral substrate, which I mixed a tiny bit in with the new live sand, added bio spira and the live rock. Then I bought another established system and merged the two into a bit bigger tank and sold off half of each as a seperate tank, then I put everything that was left in a 46 bow front. 6-8 months later I got a 65 gallon and set everything up in there. Then the tank started to bow a few months later and moved everything to a 40 breeder which I had until now if anything the amazing thing would be that everything I still have is hardy enough to survive being uprooted all the time. Basically I have pieces and life form multiple established systems all finally existing in this one tank. I can point out at least one rock for sure that is from my very first tank. I will also say this, the live rock I have bought that I have been hugely lucky with and happy to have paid $10 a lbs for I got at world of fish, and I must give a shout to Dan who has 'taken care' of me more than any LFS ever, meaning there are a lot of great fish shops in this town. I love SWE, and well I frequent a lot of sops from Something Fishy to even Petco from time to time, but really no one has taken care of me like Dan except for Aqualand, those guys are awesome as well, not as experienced in saltwater, but they are building a new saltwater room and they are honest about what they don't know and they will go out of their way to help their customers, can't thank them enough, saved me multiple times both in fresh water and saltwater. I got a painted turtle from them a year ago and they rehomed my red eared sliders that got too big(they have a huge koi/turtle pond!

BTW I think the evap is actually helping me quite a bit, at the very least the tank is getting 1-2 gallons a day of new water, and it's pretty much daily with the way my sump/fuge level is, keeping it high isn't very ideal. So I have to add water every day. I think I can let it go every other before the pump will be completely dry which is another problem I will have to address since going out of town may be impossible!

A couple more pics! I wanted to show off my leather which finally fully opened up the other night plus my tile starfish which I love, thanks Fritz! Also I think I am done adding fish outside of a watchman goby/pistol shrimp pair eventually maybe in a month. I have the mated true percs, a blue green chromis, a chlk basslet, a neon goby, a copperband butterfly, a yellow tang, and a scopas tang. I think I am nearing my fish limit.

So you all knew it would happen and it has. I came home tonight and bubbles and detrius have overtaken the tank. I thought I would be o.k. based on previous experience but as hypertech pointed out there are a lot of changes to the system and although plenty of the rock, sand, and inhabitants were from an 'old and aged' system, there was a lot of new water, new sand, and new rock. There are bubbles and detrius on everything. I assume the only thing I can really do is frequent water changes and be patient and hope it doesn't crash.:mad_3: I am going to go get massive amounts of water and start siphoning and cleaning everything as best I can and doing 10 gallon water changes every other day until I can rid myself of this. I know this is some sort of cycle but I can't seem to find anything on the net that seems similar to this, it's not cyano.

Question, I am thinking I might know part of the problem. First I as of late have probably been running my lights too long. I need to put them on timers(doing it tomorrow), second, I believe they may be just not getting enough complete darkness, since I work nights, there are always lights on around the tank and when there isn't there is sunlight adding light to the room, possibly a huge part of the problem?

Sad to hear! I hope everything turns around. Put your lights on a timer and get blackout shades for the day if you want to see them at night.
I have no idea how important sleep is for fish but I can't imagine being immersed in more than 20 hours of direct light a day. Probably where your detritus problems are coming from.

I figure this might be as good of a place as any to ask, but maybe there is also a thread I could be directed to...
Where does one find quality rimless tanks? I've heard very mixed reviews about Glasscages and I can't find the size of tank I want w/ overflow from ADG.
Suggestions?

Oceanic still makes a 57 rimless with overflow. Its the same foot print as a 40B just taller.
