I have a small aussie elegance that is doing great. Get one with full, long tentacles and feed it consistently. Get one from a source that has had repeated, long term success. I will try to get pics of mine later this week.

We got our elegance just prior to Thanksgiving...that makes 7 months, and it is thriving. First month it was really ugly, to the point I was sure it was doomed to die while we were gone for Christmas. Wonderfully surprised at how great it looked when we returned.

Is it getting bigger and brighter? curious...;)

More frilly and opens up more. Not for sure if that's growth or just acclimating to the environment better. It's always looks good, just getting even better.

How do you frag an elegance? I have heard alot of people say they are tricky to frag?!

David, do you keep your Elegance on a bare bottom? I thought that they had to be on a sand bed to do well?

David Grigor

Bare Bottom. I cut of the bottom of the skeleton flat then super glued the biggest frag disc to it so that it stays standing upright nice and secure.

Since it doesn't sit directly on the sand like a fungia or something, I don't know where you would have heard that from......shouldn't make any difference.

Fragging shouldn't be any different than a wall hammer or bubble coral. I score it on the bottom, use a flat screw driver and give it a half twist. Use a scalpel to cut the fleshy part once the skeleton is apart. However, like the bubble or wall hammer, you would want to be sure it has a real nice 1" or so flesh over the sides of the coral before attempting. One that is just barely enough flesh over the sides to not be receeding will not be near as successful and could slowly receed.

We haven't had one of the auzies go at all. Li has put his foot down on any other elegance coming in. Our worrie is that if we pull in an indo that it could infect the whole system. Its just a theory, we know, but better safe than sorry. Auzi or death!

Mine is just wedged between some rocks at the back of the tank and seems to be doing very well.
