It's sold as-is to fit inside the tank and work well. You don't need a sump to run it or the 9010. If you want to use it in the sump as and not worry about the water level much, you need to buy a seperate kit that comes with some pipes and a plastic plate to convert it. The 9010 already comes with these parts. There is a ton of helpful info on the Tunze forum on RC.
I have a Tunze #9002 and it works well for me. Very easy to setup and I haven't had to adjust it once I got it tuned in. David G has several 9010's and I sure could provide first hand answers.

I just setup a 9010 in my sump for a 120 and it is working well after only 2 days. Compact and powerful! The Tunze magnet holders can be used to attach the skimmer to the inside of the sump or tank.
To answer you question, yes the 9005 can be used in a tank with no sump.

who has the best price on one?

With Tunze there is no best price. Everyone sells them at catalog price. Pretty much isn't who has the best deal but who has them period.
If you ever think you would do the insump method, get the 9010 over the 9005. The addon kit for the 9005 puts you at the same price as a 9010 which comes with the kit and is a more powerful skimmer.
All DOCs are designed to run in tank or in sump ( as long as water level is 11"+ ). Use the insump attachements if you want to use in sump and water level is less than 11".
Like Keith mentions, the magnet is the way to go over the brackets they supply. The frustration the magnet saves you is worth the extra $36.
While the 9010 may not be the best performer compared to some larger 8-12" needlewheel skimmers, it is does a pretty amazing job for such a small footprint, price of $327 vs. and get as close of results as some skimmers well over $500. You can use the space saved for a refugium/mud systems as well. Very quiet for a skimmer and pretty much set and forget with very low maintenance ( outside of cleaning the collection cup ).

So the 9010 in tank would be the way to go for my 125/ 5' tank?
will it give me any flow?
I have the 2 TUNZE nano streams in the tank now.
I cant believe I am finally buying TUNZE stuff, always thought I would be OK with the knockoff stuff or "B" list stuff.
If I buy my wife "real" COACH bags, then I should by the good stuff for myself also.....Right?
Looks like ill have a new 1" sea swirl to sell now.
I see $327 with free shipping and no tax on the TUNZE 9010, does OD meet that?

For sure want the 9010 for 125. I think the 9005 would be too small. Plus since has the sump kit withe it will give you more future options.
OD is the same price but you have to pay sales tax.
You want the magnet for another $36 if your not going to do the insump mode. Those brackets will drive you bonkers trying to get them to work.
When using in tank, there is a opening adjustment where you can control the input flow, the more closed you make it will recirculate inside the skimmer, this is supposed to make it more plankton friendly. I keep mine wide open though.

Sure, I have a 9010 on my show tank ( currently a 110g, upgrading to a 180g in 2 weeks  ) running with insump kit on it because sump is only 6" water depth. Tank is heavy fish and coral load. As you can see in the picture the tube raises the water level in the skimmer up to the little wavy line on the skimmer which is the recommended water line for intank mode.

Also a 9010 one on 75g frag tank running intank mode with magnet but skimmer is located in the sump chamber with 11" of water. Note: This skimmer has only been on the tank since Wed and is running a little wetter than the show tank. This tank has 140+ acro frags no fish.

Lastly a 9002 on Bjs 29g tank little community tank with miracle mud filtration as well. If I had to do over again, I would have done at least a 9005 on BJs the 9002 nano isn't pulling as much as I would like but Worley like the 9002 performance on his tank. No picture.

I finally got around to taking a picture of my 9002 skimmate. It's nothing compared to David's 9010's which are crazy funky.
Its on a 20L with a RBTA, three small fish, plenty of zoas, a frogspawn and some xenia. I have no idea if it kicking butt or getting its butt kicked... but since putting it on a few weeks ago, the RBTA split and the frogspawn has finally decided to start growing!!
The picture is 3 days worth of skimmate. I usually clean it every 2-3 days, as it really slows down after the riser starts getting dirty.

The 9002 on Bj's 29g is real light colored skimmate like that too.
Personally, I haven't been impressed with the nano.
