It seems that my chalice that I bought last weekend is not doimg to good. The out side edeges are turning white. I move it to a new location, further under a cliff, with less dirrect light. I dont know if this will work. Ill post some pics but it hard to see the white edges. Got any suggestions.

What are your ca, alk, and mag? Have you doublechecked them? I had trouble with my chalices when my alk was too low due to faulty test kit.

Is it getting good flow, not blasted but good circulation?

Don't give it too little light, I keep mine in the bottom few inches of an 18" tall tank under T5s and they're doing great.

What type of lighting do you have and how deep is the tank? The sand bed is usually a good place to put them though unless you have a huge amount of light.
Also when I had trouble with my chalices everything else looked good as well, possibly just because it was new to the tank and everything else was used to it. Some coral are more sensitive to certain changes too it seems.

If the frag was fresh cut some die off can be expected. Is it losing color anywhere else other than the edges?

I would try moving it out and onto the sand bed. Completely shaded isn't a good idea. Under that cliff you may find it's getting sheltered from the light and flow and may not like this.

Also, as Shane said, some recession can happen on a newer frag, especially at the corners. Chalices tend to want to acheive a rounded shape, so I've found many (though not all) will recede their tissue at the corners of new cuts, then they tend to plump up and grow out.

The mycedium at the shop is under 4 T5's in a 20H, as are the frags, which are doing well, so I would say your frag can definitely handle some more light and flow. Feeding at night when the tentacles come out can also greatly speed recovery. I use small bits of mysis and shoot them at the mouths with a pipette. This has worked pretty well.

shane its only loosing color on the edges. Thanks for the advice nanofins. Ive moved it out into the open kind of in a corner where theres a little less flow. When I bought the frag it was in one of there other tanks. not in the new one yet. not sure if that matters or not. But ill give it a few days at hopefully it will recover. I was excited about this one especially when the mother was price at over 200$. thanks again

Hopefully it'll start improving quickly for you. I have another frag in the shop that I cut the same day and it's already healed up and growing back over. If you think your piece is having trouble coming back, let me know. I'd be willing to trade out frags if you want.

wow thanks zack. That is what makes a great store. The green eye looks i believe ok, its just the rest of it im not sure about. What do you think in your opinion would be the smart thing to do to save the coral Wait a few days or swap it out? I dont want to ad more stress to the coral by taking it out of the tank.
