I'm thinking about getting one of these for my 3 gallon. I'm planning on moving everything that is not sps to my 46 after I move, and use my 3 gallon as a sps tank (Maybe with lots of sexy shrimp).

So has anyone used or seen one? What was your opinion?
Thanks

Looks slick, but crappy looking reflector. I think the one they run at WOF looks nice.

WOF stocks both the K2 Viper and the Coralife HangOn HQI.
You can get the K2 as a 70w which would be nice for the 3g.

Storrich, How much does WOF want for them?

probably too much. I know right now we only have the 150w in stock. I can check tomorrow or thursday depending on when I work.

I wouldn't reccomend it unless you plan on twice weekly water changes and topoff by the minute, I tried a 5 gallon sps tank, waste of time. absolutely no stability, which is ok if you like brown sps that recedes rapidly, and alot of algae.

I have a ten gallon sump attached to it, and the sps that I have in there now has been doing fantastic.
You might check out a signing website... They sell those exact type of units to people who set up those posty boards at trade shows and 4h fairs. Besides, when you take the words aquarium off of it the price tends to drop a bit.

Turf, are you talking about a Halogen lamp? Do you have an example?
Yes I am and no I don't... I can try and find one, I've just asked guys at these places before and they are almost identical.

I've thought about this before, but I don't know what the difference is between a halogen ballast, and a metal halide one.
Post on RC I'm sure someone there knows.

Honestly, by the time your track down a replacement ballast, retrofitting the socket, and buying a decent MH bulb, you haven't really saved anything and definately not enough to account for the time and effort.
this is of course assuming it isn't a MH to start with, the ballast doesn't work w/a MH and does anyone here actually know the story about halogen quality/compatibility?
- I'd post on RC and find out from the people who already made the misstates. Not saying anyone is wrong I just haven't seen any data to say one way or the other.

Halogen creates way too much heat per watt very little usable PAR per watt ( closer to 3K ) for corals very heavy in the red spectrum. Halogen don't use a ballast they are basically like an incandescent so they are not compatable with any MH. You would be basically be gutting it for only the fixture and the reflector. Not worth the trouble or the savings.
David I knew you knew it but I wanted to hear(read) it. thank you thank you.
