In my effort to silence my overflow, I've decided to switch to hard plumbing and using a gate valve to submerge the stand pipe to create a siphon. I have a question on plumbing to the refugium. Should I split from the return pump to the refugium with a ball valve to control the flow into the refugium or should I split from the overflow and regulate the flow with a ball valve that way?

This is where I got the plumbing idea: Quiet Overflow (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=344892)

Has anyone done this?

Hopefully this makes some sense. And hopefully I can finish this up because my tank is FINALLY ready for some life (besides the beneficial bacteria and few hitchhiking snails).

I split mine from theoverflow. It always worked well for me. I can control how much flow is going thru the fuge.

That is what I will probably end up going with. I was just a little concerned about controlling the flow from the return pump and thought that I could "T" it off and us a ball valve to regulate some flow into the fuge if there was too much return flow. I'll let you know later this evening how things turn out...wish me luck!
