just wondering but how do i find out how many gallons are in a tank when i only have it's length, width, and height. i lost my rob fenner book :(
ohh and do substrate ever have to be replaced?

You don't need a RC calculator for volume. Make sure it is the inner dimensions and I'm assuming you are measuring in inches.
Than V = L * W * H. You'll get the volume in cu in. Then,
1 cu in = 0.00432900431 US gallons.
So, V = 0.00432900431 US * L * W * H.

L X W X H then divide by 231. Most tanks companies give you the outside demensions. To get true you need to use inside measurements. On my big tank that was a difference of close to 50gallons because so thick.
Of course, much more difficult when trying to subtract the volumne taken up by rock / sandbed etc. I just guess.
ty all :) the reason why i ask was because I'm going to be ordering a custom built tank soon hopefully haha.

I like to use the Garf calculator. You can factor in how much LR and the depth of the sand bed to get a true water volume. :biggthumpup:
