Well i have decided to find my marine Betta a girl/boyfriend, i have had one for about a year now and have done research on sexing them (which there is no way to visually accomplish this so i made an arrangement with my LFS to buy one and if they fight to be able to return it and try out another with no added charges, so i put my first one in a 29 gallon fowlr and got a one of them clear netting boxes and added the second one to the tank in the clear box. just out of curiosity has anyone attempted this before or had any success getting a pair together?

I personally wouldn't try it.

I am not trying to hate but this was to no help, might you want to add more than just that?

I think you might be best to put the one that is already established in the box and let the new one explore the tank for a few days.

i have to agree just didnt want to be the one to say it.

well looks like the first attempt failed they are not looking like they want to get along, unless they are going through their mating ritual already. will keep trying for another day or two.

Well, I can't offer any suggestions directly for Marine Bettas. Never owned one, however when trying to pair bangaii cardinals ( while there are some visual subtuties they aren't absolute ), that even if male & female introduced at the same time they can fight and/or otherwise not get along especially in such a confined space because of territory issues. Unfortunately can still end in death before they agree to be mates.

So really I think to be most successful would need a really large tank so that you have enough space they can each have there own territory to reduce the initial fighting.

Marine bettas get pretty large. 29g is likely too small for 1 let alone 2. Do you plan to try to raise the fry ? If not, I see no real reason to try to find a mate.

I am Planning on raising the fry. the reason for having them in the 29 is very temporary. they are only in there so it is easier to get one out if need be since this is a fowlr. if i am sucessful with finding a pair then they will be moved into their own 120 gallon.

The aggression towards there own kind that I've seen can be very destructive, and in such a small tank the territory is already undersized. Just doesn't seem worth the trouble in my mind. Sorry about the short post earlier.
