So I have this one peice of live rock that has these two polyp looking things on it. at first thought maybe some polyps or something, but on closer look i notice they have what apears to be bubble tentacles. after some research I think they are Majano anemone but I'm not 100% sure. could anyone help me identify them. in the pic it's on the rock at the base of the coral.

Sorry I don't know how to get good pics with the camera I have. Too much motion in the tank even on "sports mode"

Okay, so if it is Majano does anyone have a good idea on how to get rid of it?
1. beat it :deadhorse: or poke it :poke: with a stick
2. introduce it to a slap happy fish :trout2:
3. shoot it with a chemical :flamethrower::2gunsfiring:

I saw what looked like one once. I covered it in that moldable epoxy stuff to make sure it didn't like melt and pop up everywhere. It did the trick for me.

well I have three of them and a whole tube of that moldable epoxy stuff. If there are no objections, I think I will give it a try.

That or how big is the rock and are they on one rock? If they are all on one rock and it is smaller just pop the rock out cook it and bang all better. Otherwise it does work to seal them in.

I had them on one of my rocks... I took the rock out of the tank, and then took a screwdriver and dug the little guys out. Then I rinsed the rock in so RO, and back in the tank!!! I have not seen them since!!!

The one I had grew off DEAD ROCK in a new tank with nothing but dead rock. I have no idea how it could have gotten in there. These things must be able to live through their spores drying out. Seeing that, I wasn't happy with any solution short of total containment. An acid wash would probably do it, but I'm not convinced. They are evil.

I haven't done anything with them yet.
taking them out of the tank would mean removing the rock that both they and the coral frag are attached to. I really don't want to stress that coral anymore by removing it from the rock.
I found one page last night that said I can shoot it with a kalwasser solution. Wondering though if I do that, will it still send out spores as it's dieing? will doing that harm the coral living on the same rock as it?

The kalk will work as well I forgot about that. It shouldn't harm your corals ether as long as well you are using it you don't get a ton of it on them and let it sit. If it does touch them its not a big deal just blow it off. For it to work you have to build a mound on top of the little bugger and have it sit for a bit and it melts them. If you want stop by the store and we can show you how to do it in person.
