This last weekend, my wife and I went home to Bemidji to visit family. One of the pet stores in town has moved to a new location and I wanted to check it out. I went to the area that they keep there fish in I saw a protien skimmer sitting on the floor, and asked if they were still using it. She said no, that it was broken, and so I asked if I could have it, No problem. I wwalked outt of there with a red sea berlin turbo, without the pump. I lnow it's not the greatest skimmer around, but I'm thinking that I can make it better, and I'm trying to figure out how I can put a recirculating pump onto it. I don't think that I'll use any of the smaller tubes that are inside of it. I have a few months to think about it untill I'll do anything.
Thanks

I haven't heard of anyone making a recric berlin (doesn't mean you can't), I know there are a few mods that can increase the skimmer's performance like adding a stronger pump and a larger venturi.

I'm thinking of pretty much removing everything that makes it a berlin. I just need to find a way of opening it up so that I can' get at the inside of it easier. There's a big plastic piece that I'll need to remove.

Nothing is broken with it. Everyone seems to complain about them, so I thought I'd change one. I got it for free, so it's not like I'm out anything. Besides, It'll be a fun experiment/project.
let me know if this means you have an old skimmer to get rid of:biggrin:
