View Full Version : EMERGENCY: Leaking Acrylic Tank

Okay, so I came down to my fishroom to find an unpleasant surprise. The side seams on my new frag tank are coming apart, and I have developed a slow-but-steady leak. Fortunately the water level had not dropped much and the current damage seems minimal, but I need a fix on this fast. I don't know the first thing about working with acrylic, but I imagine it's going to need to be taken down to work on.
For now I did have some two-part epoxy which I was able to make a bead out of and block the leaky seam, but of course this is a very temporary fix. Hopefully the seams don't get worse fast, or I could be in some trouble. I could really use the help of someone experienced in sealing/resealing acrylic.

weld-on 16 I think is the correct glue for the aplication. wish I knew more about it to help. I'd be moving items out in to something (anything) else before you have a complete seem failure.

Can you take the system down, or no? I could come over there and re-enforce it, but I need some more info so I can make a small patch to glue into place. You must also have the drip completely stopped so that the weldon can cure.
LMK if you want my help,
Mary

Sorry to hear that Zach!
I'll offer my 100g rubbermaid if you need it, but I've been to your house enough times to know you've probably got a few extra tanks. ;)
Mary and Dustin are both acrylic wizards, so I'm sure they can help you out or is it possible to contact the tank builder perhaps?
Let me know if I can help somehow.

Thanks for the offers of support guys. I really appreciate it. Finding this tank leaking today was not a pleasant surprise. Hopefully I can get it fixed quickly and having it back up and running. For now I will be moving everything to my 30 breeder and 75 and draining the frag tank so I can take care of the seams.
If I just had my darn 310 up and running that would make this a super minor issue...

This sucks. Hope you don't lose any of your wonderful corals. Dang Zack... you were supposed to have that 310 up by now....do I need to take a day off work to help you get this monster up?
On another note......are my Pink Boobies ok?

wait.. can we ask that out of the dirty sump? Now, I am sure they are a coral. The name however sounds interesting. I must have some of these as well.

The Pink Boobies are doing fine. I didn't have them in the frag tank, so no worries. Yes Merkurfan, everyone should have pink boobies in their collection. At some point a picture will be forthcoming (but don't shield your eyes).
As to helping me get the monster going, I may be getting to the point where I might just ask for some help one day. Taking on the project on my own makes it harder to find the time and motivation in coincidence.
