Well, I figured since my husband spent so much time on this forum, and now I have been to a couple meetings, I would sign up myself and see what it's all about. Thanks to everyone for all the great conversations and info at Ocean Devotion!!

Jeff (Wolrey) is in charge of the equipment and maintenance but I get to help pick out all the 'new' stuff, and feed the fish. We have a 20 long nano on the kitchen island with a six-line wrasse, a false perc, and a blue damsel.

'My' tank (Jeff also does the maintenance and water changes on that one) is a 75 discus tank with 2 blue turqs, a blue diamond, and 4 baby mandarin passions. Right now we feed like crazy!!

I also have a 40 gallon breeder that is a QT tank for the discus - Jeff keeps hinting at it's potential as a bigger reef tank...we'll see...

Talk to everyone soon!

Jessica

Here is a photo of my piggies/discus. We are up to feeding about a million times a day but it's worth it - look at how big they've gotten! Jeff isn't too happy about this freshwater tank sucking up the reef tank budget...but he thinks they are pretty and does the water changes anyway!

Will try to post the nano tank pics later - we borrowed a sweet camera this month so more photos forthcoming!!!!

We got these from Jack Taylor of Discus KC - he comes up to MN pretty regularly and has some really, really nice fish that he breeds. Our next purchase from him will be some leopard snakeskins.

Check out MN Fishkeepers forum too - lots of folks have discus and there is a discus club (as if you need another vice...)

Also, some people here in town have bred fish - we got some nice Mandarin Passions locally for really cheap.

There is a local discus club. A branch of the Minnesota Aquarium Society, sort of. A really nice, really laid back group of very pleasant helpful, knowledgeable people. I have the idea that some day I might keep discus (keeping up with water changes once I get buried in teaching during the school year is what keeps me from doing it), and went to a meeting or two of this group, and am on their e-mail list. They occasionally have shipments of discus from big breeders. Sometimes these big breeders come for visits and bring fish. And some of the local discus folks are big into breeding themselves. These people would probably be your best local source of good, healthy discus.

And welcome to the club/forum. It is nice to see women involved....aquarium clubs seem to get so completely dominated by men. I have always found this strange. (the wife of the president of a former club I was in suggested that men inherently like to control things, and that with aquariums we can create and control little worlds!...I'm not sure what I think of her analysis, but I think it is a sort of amusing idea!).

My favorite quote from southpark...

"I AM GOD OF THE SEAPEOPLE, I AM MASTER OF THE GREAT SUNKEN UNIVERSE...
...
MOM!"
"Yes poopie?"
"Mom...I am god of the Seapeople..."
"Thats nice pumpkin."

or something to that effect
