So I have this thing comming out of my acan every night and it attacks everything it can get a hold of. I had baby snails woke up one morning and there were shells laying all around this.

I was thinking spaghetti worm? But why so aggressive. I have done research but thought I would seek the opinion of my "Fish Family" (good way to put it Becky)

The stuff on the left looks like junk on the glass or something. The little tentacles around the polyps are feeders. I don't see how it would catch a snail though. I would suspect they died from something else and you just have a slow flow area there that deposits them.

Looks like mesenterial filaments to me. Basically it's extending it's gut to clean out the area of anything around it so it can feel free to expand. It looks like an acan echinata which are well-known to do this, they can extend them for quite a ways, around 4" is not uncommon I don't think.

I have watched it spit out a shell before. These were small stromellia snails.

Exactly right. My ATL Jaguar does this quite commonly. Even sometimes nukes the coralline in the area it's growing.

Man! I was wondering what ate one head of my frogspawn just last night! I had it parked near one of my 2 Jaguar acans. Well...time for a bigger tank!

Yeah, for sure. The echinatas are major fighters when it comes to protecting terrirory. My jaguars have never sent out any 4" sweepers, but I try to give them at least 1-2" between them any anything else. I haven't had any issues as long as I give them a 2" berth. I came down one night to find it with its guts strewn across the near edge of one of my chalices and that was all the more lesson I needed.

Actually, I found out my rotundaflora will do this too, maybe worse. I came down in the morning and found about 2.5" of my Ming's Pink Polyp Cap was white and covered in goo, and the rotundo, over 2" away, had it's mesentary stretching the distance. I can only figure the cap started talking smack or something, cause they were both in their spots for a couple months with no incident.

echinatas are the devil:biggthumpup: Mine reached out over 6 inches and killed a 4 inch acro colony. Then wiped out some acans. No more echinatas:biggrin: My acan heeli the devil too, but not as bad. And the acan maximas another coral to respect:biggthumpup:

Really, I've never seen my maxima send out any sweepers at all. I'm sure with a polyp that big and being an acan, you wouldn't want to mess with it though.

I have never seen a coral as aggressive as this one lol
