So I meshed modded an RS80 (thanks again David). Should I notice an immediate difference in performance? On RC, people made it sound like they had to completely open their drains so as a result of the mod. I turned it on about an hour ago and the foam level is pretty much the same with the pinwheel. Although it is much louder than before....

I can't say specifically for RS80 as I never modded a sedra3500. On both a sedra5000 and 9000 yes if was instant. Had to either use a needle valve to reduce air or lower the standpipe or would overflow.

On ASM G4 with 9000, it was so signficant ( this was during the wintertime ) that my heater could not longer keep up at night from the increased air cooling the water so much at night. That was something I never really considered. Heater would run full blast entire night and still 2 degrees lower than should be.

Noise and vibration usually calms down after a day or so. If you didn't trim well enough I can see where it could cause too much drag and not see an improvement. Or if too far out of balance.

Did you use the fishing line method or small cable tie method to attach ? Fishing line is supposed to be better less drag but I just used the cable ties with the fat part of the cable tie on the back of the impeller.

Were your pumps any louder after the mod? I wonder if I have any strands that are a bit too long, I trimmed at an angle so that the mesh is a little shorter than the base of the wheel.

Once things settled down wasn't really much louder than before maybe just a tad. The first few days though it definately was but settled in.

I never tried to tapper.

When you cutting off the excess, be sure to hold it with the disc up to trim. Make it easier to trim and you don't take too much or too little off that way.

If it doesn't quiet down after a week or so, Then redo the mod. I always got better at it the more I did it. By the time I did 5 or so I was a master. If you need to play with it to get it right , don't worry about using up all your mesh. I still have some left.

Thanks. I also noticed that there was more air in the skimmer this morning... the skimmate was practically clear (slight yellow tint) and the cup was practically full. I had to open the exit all the way and close the air intake a bit... Thanks for the help.

Sounds like it's working.
