So I was just given a Candy Cane FIF and i have a few questions.

I read around about Candy canes and there seems to be some disagreement...

Some places say to spot feed, others say don't.

Some places say they need lots of light, others say little.

About the only thing everywhere agreed on is they only like moderate to low flow.

So... right now my candy cane is at the top of my tank (maybe 4 - 6 inches from the top of the water) and there is a Maxijet that shoots along the side of the rock it is on so it should have moderate water flow. The tank has T5s (2 white and 2 actinic)...

Is this alright for the coral? And what sort of additives should I be looking for? Right now this is the only stony coral in the tank, everything else is Xenia, Mushrooms and some Zoas maybe.

I did not realize I was getting a Candy Cane frag till last night when I got the plastic bag with it in it :)

So...

Medium light... low flow... spot feed frozen Mysis once a week...

Yes monti I saw they seemed happy and healthy so I want to make sure I give them a good start!

I dont see any feeders out, so I have a bit of time to get some Mysis.

Looks like I am making a trip to the store!

mhm frozen mysis or freeze dried, both will work. the latter is easier for smaller frags.
IME it will take them a few days to aclimate and send them out.

Best of luck.

I don't mean to jack this thread... but can you overfeed candy canes?

You have to have the lights off for a while, then the feeder tentacles will cone out.

I moved mine from under my MH to the side of the tank and he got very angry and half of the heads receded and died. Once I moved him back front and center he was happy. I just let mine catch mysis when I feed. They seem very happy to get food. I went from 2 to about 16 heads until the die off.

Trained mine to send out feeders at daytime, so cool.
Feeding often makes em grow faster.

I keep mine under PC and MH
And med-high flow. They don't mind, they just stick their tentacles out more. Interesting LPS for sure
