Eggcrate lining the bottom of my tank?

Any thoughts on laying eggcrate on the bottom of the whole tank before I put sand in? My thought was it would be good for setting rock on, etc. Keep me from needing to make those PVC stands. Thoughts?

Stack about 3 or 4 high in squares with zip-ties. but really it's cheaper to use pvc.
