Here it is in the flesh! We had a pretty easy going time getting the tank down the steps and on the stand. I think it was only 400 - 450lbs but still heavy. Here are some pics of it so far. I'll try and keep the pics coming as I hook the system up and get it running.
Thanks for all the input on how to move the tank. Many suggestions were helpful.http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c266/Boker420/?action=view&current=100_5009.jpg

I got it from Aquarium Obsessed. It was a bit over 2 g's with the starfire and shipping was a crazy 450.00

Yeah Troy I'm going to love the 3 feet of width. I'm planning on making a horseshoe shape with the rock structure. Like an upside down U from the front. Then I'll have about 3 feet by 1.5 feet of sand space in the middle front. And maybe put a open brain/lobo garden there.

That tank is beautiful already! I'm definitely going to follow your progress on this one. I will be upgrading down the road and was thinking 180 gallon...but that 3 feet is sweet!!

I love the overflow design. I understand the 4 smaller holes will be used for a close loop, but what is the larger hole just under the overflow for? Sorry if this is such a noob questions...but guess what...i'm new ;)

Keep the pictures coming

Shipping uggggh. Stinks that it costs that much to ship, I suppose I can understand why though. Deep tanks are always sooooo cool to see. The unique aquascaping that can be done is amazing. Which sides are starfire?

I'm glad you put that bucket in it... it looked like a normal little tank w/out it!

Sweet tank for sure! I am going to be putting together a 210 all-glass soon. I could have had that tank shipped for about 2/3 of that through our company.

Nice tank indeed. I would say all but the back and bottom is starfire knowing Bill but I might be wrong.

The front, sides and eurobrace is starfire. The 2" hole under the overflow is for the closed loop intake. The other 4 holes are the 1" closed loop returns which will maybe be 3/4" enductors.

I still need to get some plumbing supplies but I'm hoping to have water in it by this weekend.

Thank you

Well I got the tank leveled and plan to add the crushed coral tonight.

I assume you're using that as a substrate, so I'll ask it: Why? I can think of a couple reasons not to use it (captures detritus, prevents keeping certain types of inverts/fish) and they all out-weigh the single reason to use it (its heavy).

Hopefully you've thought this out real well and I'm just being dense...

Bitchin' tank, by the way. Really loving the external overflow and closed-loop plan. Eductors are the way to go on big tanks, but you need room for a wavemaker!

I have some burrowing fish that will do just fine. I'm mainly using it since I will have high flow in the tank and I don't want any sand storms. I like the look of it over fine sand also. I will be cleaning the sand bed every other water change so I shouldn't have to worry about detritus build-up. And actually you can build up a deeper sand bed with crushed coral vs. fine sand since it has more space between particles. And due to that it will house a bigger population of amphipods over copepods for food for my corals and fish.

I got the cc in the tank. I only have 120lbs in and it's about a 2" bed. I think I'll add more to make it 2.5" - 3". What do you think?

I figured you had this all worked out, the high-flow vibe was evident. The depth is up to you, it will depend on how much time you want to spend on cleaning it, as I would think the thicker the bed gets, the more stuff builds up and the more time it takes to clean. I assume. ;)

Some more pics with the plumbing leak fixed. It's holding water, But it only has about 40 gallons of water so we'll see.

I have moved just about all of the livestock and all of the rock into my new tank.
I have about 8-9 stalks of Xenia that are growing on the glass at the top of my old tank. I don't want to let them just die so if anyone is interested in some FREE Xenia let me know. It would have to be picked up this weekend yet.

I'll take some new pics soon once everything calms down.

Here are a few crappy pics. I'm super stoked about the tank being up and running. I've found out that my closed loop is a bit strong. I was worried that it would not have enough flow but the opposite is the case. Let me know what you guys think.

I'm not sure that you can have to much flow.

Boker420
09-15-2007, 07:47 PM
Well its just the way that the enductors have to be positioned. It creates too much wave action at the top of the tank so water jumps on top of the eurobrace. I'll figure out something.

Boker420

The closed loop pump is a Blue Line 200PS. 1700+ GPH at 29ft of head. So I figure with the enductors the flow is about 1500 gph per output. The enductors at 10 psi will increase the flow by 5 x. So with head loss and pressure loss I'm thinking 1500 gph times 4 outputs. It feels like more than that but there really isn't a way I can actually test it.

I will take more pics tomorrow after I get at least some of my Lab report wrote that is due on Monday. Thanks for the compliments. I always have an open house if anyone wants to make the trip down to Mankato.

Actually right now I have 2-250W 20K radiums with a 10K reeflux and 2-140W VHO super actinics. I just bought a new PFO magnetic HQI dual 250W ballast to run 2-250W 10K reeflux. So my finished Light will be 2- 250W 20K and 2-250W 10K with the VHO's.
I still have about a 1/3 of my corals in my frag tank. Haven't had time to place them.

Suweeet! Love the LPS area you setup in there. The orange and green brain is Killer!!

Your tank would definately be worth the trip to Makato to checkout!

What's going on in Mankato I don't know about? Seems there are more and more tanks in that direction I need to see. Maybe we need to have a southern tour weekend. Someone has a meeting friday night, maybe anothe two on saturday, and we could 'maybe' a B&B or hotel that would offer a group discount so we could check out the fall colors as well.

isn't that too much flow for all your lps? especially with the eductors? I would think you'd be blowing the tissue right off them.

Boker420
09-19-2007, 09:52 AM
I put the LPS in specific lower flow areas. They seem to be loving where they are at. My big polyped Acan (maxima) just recently fried my large colony of rainbow micro. Not much can compete with the stinging power of a micro so my thoughts that it is a maxima are just that much more solid. I'll be fragging him as soon as Smeese gets my dremel tool back to me.
Anyone is welcome to come down and check out my tank. Just let me know before hand.

The clam is a squamosa I think.

The small anenome is one I saved from the live rock tank at the local pet store.

The Sohal tang is my pride and joy. He has an awesome personality. He lets me hand feed him.

I like how it looks like you're keeping the rock off the sandbed. How deep is the sandbed?
