a fish trap. Anyone have a design for a clear acrylic fish trap?

I've seen them somewhere.....

Basically it's just a box with one end that has grooves for the door to slide up/down in. That probably doesn't help you much

I gives me an rough idea though. I wonder if Bob makes them?

I think David G has one that I remember him mentioning. As I remember it was a fairly simple design and quite effective.

Depending on the size of the fish. you can use a plastic bottle.
I've used a 2 liter bottle before. You just cut the top off before it tapers and then turn it around so the mouth is inside the bottle. If it's a small fish you can just use the existing hole. If it's a little larger, cut the top cap part off and make the hole as big as necessary for the fish to get in.

Once the fish is in it will have to be very quick to get out. Typically I just watch for the fish to enter and then stick my hand in front of the bottle and grab it out. The fish will naturally not swim towards your hand/opening.

Cheap, easy and it works.

For others who are interested here is the TCMAS archived thread. In it is the original RC thread that also show many other designs as well:

Haven't encountered a fish that I can't catch yet. Like other have mentions some fish are pretty apprehensive about the whole contraption while others could care less. But if you trap once and it gets out or don't shut the door in time best waiting a day as they usually get too spooked to come near it again ( Chromis for example. Have no problem catching the first time but don't really get second chances in the same day ). If trap left in the tank for a few days and you feed the fish exclusively through the trap, they get bold pretty quickly when there is no other choice for food.

My skills of fabrication...well are not great, because I have NO patience. Anyone have one of these they are willing to loan out or sell? Does BOb make them?
