this nest will hatch on monday night, and i have an ocellaris nest hatching two nights later, so i'll add the ocellaris to the same tank as the percula, and co-culture them together.

Is it true that 'co-culturing' two or more species of clowns reduces any violence between the individual fish as they grow? Thought I read that somewhere and have never heard it mentioned much.

if you co-culture an aggressive species with a passive species, your not making the aggressor any less aggressive, just providing less aggressive fish for them to be aggressive to. typically the agressive species is more valuable such as those McCulloch's Clownfish, and loosing just one of them is a big loss. while letting them kill a few ocellaris is no big deal.
packing more clowns into a space can reduce aggression, as individual fish cant be singled out and pestered to death. this may not apply to all species, and is valid only to a certain point.

Good luck! We need to talk more once my clowns start spawning! I have zero experience in fry raising an cultivating their food. Shouldn't be hard though once I get it down I hope!

Hey Chad, congrats on the nest. I have to strongly discourage you from the co-culture idea because invariably, you could/will end up with misidentified babies being sold off as one or the other. Sure, you may be able to tell most apart, but the reality is some will likely slip by. So it becomes a very bad idea to mix these two groups of larvae.
Time to get another larval tank going if you need to!

i've thought about that, and i'm not to worried. percula will take longer to get a 3rd stripe than the ocellaris, and this is when i'll separate them.
then again when they are to be sold, they'll be inspected for deformities and any mix-ups can be sorted then too. i'm not over my head yet, so checking each fish is still a reality.

It's not about being in over your head, it's about you genuinely making a mistake. All it takes is one misbar to throw you off. Even the best of us could do it. Afterall, if you're going to use stripes to separate, eventually you're going to need at least 2 tanks to house these babies anyways. So just do it now. This is the kind of stuff that ruins breeder reputations on the FW side of the hobby..mixing two very closely related species thinking they can sort them out later. I would NEVER buy fish from a breeder who was doing that, nor would I support it. Not an issue I take lightly because if you make a mistake, you may unintentionally really screw up some future breeder who gets a misidentified fish from you.
I implore you to NOT follow through on this plan to mix the fish.
