My plans for the tank are to drill the tank again and build an additional overflow box. I will put together the sump out of a 38g AGA tank to be able to hold as much water as possible in the event of a power failure. It will be lit using only t5's.

I will update this as it goes along.

would it be better if you have a refugium on left and return in middle??
just wondering,,i am in process of build one but not sure how its goes,,,any input ??

I just found it easier to design the flow in a single direction.

kvmn

if flow in one direction then the water keep pushing cheato to otherside and sometime cheato braking pieces and got up to show tank,,anybody have this problem/.??

With the 9010, you will need some room (2") away from the sump walls to set the collection cup.

storrisch
09-16-2007, 10:39 AM
the angle of the model makes it look skinnier than it is. I took the dimensions from Tunze and I will be using the magnet mounts. The tank is 12" wide so I will def. have enough room in there.

oyam123
09-16-2007, 01:27 PM
so the cup will set over the top edge of the sump?
the 9010 will be used as an in tank, not a sump set-up?

storrisch
09-21-2007, 11:06 AM
The cup will be inside the sump. The collection cup doesnt look much bigger...if any bigger than the skimmer body. I def. could be wrong and I would have to raise the first partition if that is the case.

I got the sump tank on Wed. night.

David Grigor

It is very doubtful you need that last partition and would give you a bit more volumne more time in case top off where to fail off.

I'd only add that partition if really after you got it running you find you actually need it.

I usually put some foam in between the two so that macro algae doesn't make it to the main tank. Otherwise looks the same as mine ( less the last partition ).

I have my 9010 in the sump lower but it's an acrylic that has no rim. With a tank with a rim, you either have to have is low enough where the whole skimmer cup is below the rim or up high like in-tank use.

Nice! I like the 3D rendering. What's gonna be in the display?

storrisch
09-21-2007, 11:21 AM
The main display will be a mixed reef.

I used Google SketchUp for the 3d image. I am using it to design my canopy layout as well.

I ordered the bit from twopart on wed. so I should be able to drill it again this weekend depending on how crazy work is.

I just got the parts to get my RO unit up and running from thefilterguys today.

I am working on getting a 55g barrel for water making/storage.

Glad to see you are finally getting your bigger tank. Looking good so far.

Here is a canopy design I threw together. The holes on the sides are for 120mm fans. I don't know that I will actually use 6. We shall see what I decide when I get all the parts in hand.

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n59/storrisch/75g%20Build/canopy.jpg

the google sketchup stuff is more of just a general idea on paper for me. I get sidetracked easy and it keeps me a little more on target. Things will def. change as I get it put together.

after moving the image to a subfolder and redoing the link it wont post again so if you want to see it click the link.

I just built a 6 bulb T5 fixture using two 80 mm Silenx fans pushing in one site. Then I drilled two holes on top, opposite side, which seems to move enough air. Six fans really seem like overkill. I also had a sheet of acrylic betwee bulbs and tank to minimize evaporation, this also helps to force air across the bulbs.

storrisch
09-25-2007, 12:28 PM
you are going to have to clean that acrylic sheet all the time to maximize the light getting into your tank.

I am sure 4 120's would be enough but like I said we will see once I have everything in hand. It's not like the fans add that much extra wattage. I want to make sure to keep an condensation out of the canopy so the dehumidifier can take care of it there.

civil
09-25-2007, 01:46 PM
So far the acrylic has stayed fairly clean, though some maintenance will be required. Almost all computer fans are low draw but dehumidifiers push 800 watts, I wanted to minimize how much that runs.

I drilled another hole for an additional overflow box in case one clogs. I used modeling clay to make a dam...filled it with water and changed the batteries in my drill like 18times..here is the finished product.

http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n59/storrisch/75g%20Build/DSCF3265.jpg

I picked up my water storage barrel and cut the top off of it yesterday...filled it up w/ freshwater to clean it one additional time. I will be keeping it in the front entrance closet just around the corner from where the tank will be...I will just use a pump for water changes.

so I have been slacking on this build mainly because of financial reasons.

but I did dry plumb the tank this week.

Probably running to Lowe's tomorrow to have the glass cut for the baffles.

I am probably going to order my return pump this week as well so I can fill this thing up w/ water and make sure the water flows as planned.

and then after winning the powerball this Wed. everybody gets new T5's. :greenguy:

So how's the tank build coming along?

I need to pick up my return from SWE this week.
I got my T5's from Fritz but still need to build a canopy.
RO/DI and storage container are up and running.
Bob is building my other overflow box.
I spent all my tank money going snowboarding in CO last week.

I haven't recieved my T5's yet, so I am guessing you didn't win the lottery.

I wish....

I got around to being productive the past few days. Here are a few updates to the progress.

I got the overflow box from Bob at ReefMania and siliconed that in tonight.
http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n59/storrisch/DSCF3415.jpg

I picked up glass from lowes and had them cut it. I then sanded the top edge down and siliconed it into the sump. I still need to create the heater/probe holder in there but that will come next week.

I painted the back of the tank black w/ Krylon Fusion.

I got my OR2500 return pump and 3/4" Loc-Line from SWE.

Where did you get the storage barrell?

storrisch
01-26-2008, 08:50 PM
from Bill (thecichlidsite.com) over at the minnfish.com forums. He has a bunch of them and sells them for $10 a piece. I am probably going to get another one from him to use one for RO/DI and one for SW. He has them out at his shop.

I think a few others from here have gotten them from him and I know numerous people that have them from the minnfish forums. I think he brought 6 to the auction just today.

why use white silicon????

even the clear will look white tell it drys out! so I am guessing it is clear but it just isn't dry.

but then again it could just be white and he doesn't care about the color!

storrisch

why use white silicon????

It's clear just looks white in the pictures of the sump. The picture w/ the new overflow box siliconed in you can tell it is clear. The pictures of the sump are about 5 min. after siliconing the baffles in and about 13 hours before realizing I didn't sand them enough and sliced my knuckle open. I am going to add a thin layer of silicon on top of them to keep from doing that again.

I decided I didn't have enough time to build one so I was going to skip the canopy. I sold my retrofit kits and bought a tek light fixture so it is now going to be open top.

Thank you for the offer though

it is live rock.

3 pieces
-the one on the left is 17 lbs
-the large main one is 46 lbs
-and the one I broke that was supposed to go under the huge one that is now on top is another 13 lbs.

The random wire was just from a coralife temp. probe I have in there to keep an eye on things until I got my AC Jr.

Fritz
Thanks it was a huge pain in the A getting that big piece in and fitted on the acrylic rod structure. I ended up breaking the bottom piece and had to move it to the top but it still turned out decent enough for me.

I moved all the fish out of the biocube except for the sixline and the trimma goby. They definitely are enjoying have the extra room to swim. All the SPS and LPS also got pulled and moved to the 75 after a series of double dosed extra long dips w/ Revive and TMPCC.
