I am setting up a new skimmer with an iwaki 100rlt. Where I would like to locate the intake is in a section of the sump where it is going to suck up air bubbles from the tank return spashing in to the sump.

Is this bad for the pump other than maybe some lack of flow from sucking up the bubbles?

the skimmer is an etss 1000.

Nice skimmer! The potential issue is that with a downdraft or Beckett you want to have consistent pressure. My concern would be that due to pulling in varying amounts of air, you won't be having the consistency and the foam head may fluctuate... This is just a guess though...

That's a lot of skimmer... Are you putting it on a large tank? I had one when they first came out and they are the best... Have a 900 but the system wasn't large enough for the skimmer...
