I was thinking about getting some type of mushrooms for my tank but I have a few questions. I am trying to figure out what kind of Actinodiscus mushroom are the ones that are like blue with a greenish haze in the center. Also, I have seen many different sizes and shapes of mushrooms, Are there any that dont get very wide and tend to stay smaller. I want to have a little colony of them.

As far as I know, they all get big under good lighting.
Ricordea or St. Thomas mushrooms are my favorites.
Here's a ric garden

I like those alot, and may end up going that route but I am looking for more of something with the color of the first picture, and the arrangement and size of the second picture...

People in the club have those. Might start a "WTB, blue mushrooms" thread and see what people have locally. Be warned though, they can take over a tank.

Is there any way of containing them?

When they get too big, cut them down to their stock *all but the tiny bit attached to the rock) and it'll grow back as a new mushroom, you can let the old one re-attach to something and sell it as a frag. If they start crowding your corals or popping up in places you don't want them and can't frag or remove them, kill them like you would a pest nem.

Leave the mushrooms mounted to rock in their own little island. Don't let them touch any of your main rock structure.
Even then, they occasionally let go and mount elsewhere so nothing is foolproof.

Yep, they're crazy good at re-generating. One guy stuck a very large mushroom in a blender for a bit, then took the pieces and put them back in a tank and had over 50 mushrooms grow from the fragments (wouldn't suggest it though).

How long do they take to grow back if I were to cut them? I dont know if I want to have to keep cutting them to prevent them from taking over my picotope

If you would like a mushroom or 2 I have purple, green, and brown. If you want to stop over. Live in Farmington. I like the hairy mushrooms and the rics the best.

I'll be posting a thread on "fragging" mini carpet anemones later this week, you'll be able to frag ricordea the same way.
