Quick question for you folks still into the hobby. I see Oceanic has a new line coming out, the Ultimate which features Starphire glass. My question is does anybody know if all viewing panels are Starphire or just the front? I also am digging their new size configurations.

Yes it does to me, but then again I work with glass all day long everyday so I easily see the difference between low iron glass and regular clear glass....

From what i understand of the new oceanic tech series tanks the 3 veiwing panels are starphire glass front and both sides they also dont have a center brace.

I guess what I'm asking is , is it going to be like the difference of looking at a clam through the glass VS through the top of tank or is it just going to be slightly better ?

According to their wholesale catalog it says that 3 sides are starphire. could be a misprint thoughthe site only mentions front .

Im guessing they changed that then. i do know the catalog i seen was the first one for that line. I'm sure it will make em a little cheaper then. The 120 gallon tech series tanks and stand was about $1100.00

I am getting a 4 foot 150 in this series after the first of the year. I am excited to hear no centerbraces!

Ummm I think Oceanic's site is hosed. I am guessing most if not all the size dimensions are wrong. They have the 120 listed as 48.5 x 25 x 18.5, not even close to 120 gallons. They have the 90 gallon listed the same but from the pictures I have looked at in the reefcentral forum it looks like the standard 90 not how they have it listed at 48.5L x 25W x 18.5H---that dimension would be cool but I am pretty sure the pics of the 90 I have seen are 18.5 wide and 25 high. Just when I was thinking I may need a tank again....and no I don't want to go through the hassel of building one again.

Does anyone in the biz know what the pricing is for the 90 and 105 in the Ultimate series and the Tech series? Just the tank, black frame is fine.

Thanks,
Chris

I could.... Oceanic are more pricy than AGA, but IMHO, the quality is a lot higher. My 120 is an AGA, my last AGA.... I think when I was looking at my 120 the price difference from the AGA to Oceanic was $200+. I went with AGA due to capacity. At the time, I would have been on a waiting list for several months to get an Oceanic 120...

From talking to www.glasscages.com The starphire glass doesn't have iron that give it that greenish tint...Similiar clarity to an acrylic tank

Beware of glass cages reputation and be very careful about deciding to buy from them.

That info is, in my understanding, exactly right. There are a couple companies that make low iron glass but Starphire is the most common brand we see.

I worked retail at a fish store out of HS for a few years in Texas and we sold Oceanic. They were night and day better than everything else at the time. I like the Starphire front glass idea and after my last disaster I am hesitant to go used again. This purchase should fall around tax return time assuming they are available by then. 90 is really what I want, I was just curious of the pricing on the 105.

I am looking to buy a new tank also. Something in the 180 to 220 size, tank only. Maybe we could get a group discount.

Starphire is made/sold by PPG and is just the common name we hear in the aquarium forums for low iron glass.
There are other companies that sell low iron glass.(Optiwhite, Ultrawhite, etc...)

So, yes all "Starphire" is probably pretty much the same stuff, but it may differ slightly from other low iron glass brands.

Google "low iron glass" for tons of info.

As far as I know they don't make varying grades of the starphire brand low iron glass. I don't know of any clarity tests between low iron glass brands either. For some reason, it seems that starphire has a hold on the market but I don't know if that is because of superior quality above other brands.

There is a big difference between regular and Starfire glass... when seen side by side. On their own, both are good. No doubt Starfire is better, if you have the cash to burn. Obviously many of us have wonderful tanks we enjoy without starfire!

The Ultimate series has front-only Starphire while the Tech series has Staphire on the sides as well.

About sizes...right now I only see 120g maximum available for the Techs. Someone else will have to chime in about future availability.
