My Euroreef rs135 which has a gate valve installed is "shutting down" - (bubbles start breaking about 5" below cup vs. normally I have it breaking about 1"-1.5" below the spillover into the cup) every once in a while through out the day and it seems to last for anywhere from 1-5 hours. I'm not sure why this is happening. Hopefully this explanation makes sense. I'm not adding anything new to the tank - and it has just recently started happening. Any reason why this is happening or how I can fix it?

Thanks.

Happen after feeding ? It's relatively normal for oily type foods like frozen mysis and brineshrimp to shutdown the skimmer for several hours.

It could be. I haven't noticed it in the past and I haven't changed any feeding regimes. I'll continue to monitor it. It's working fine right now - after spending about 2 hours 5" below the up. Strange.

My CSS 125 freaks out like this too. I am in the process of trying to find a gate vale to modify it with, in hopes that this will help.

I have noticed that when I top off the tank it pulls my water out than anything, have you noticed anything like this after a water change or adding addtional water?

I have an ATO - so I'm not sure if just adding a little RO/DI throughout the day is doing it. Installing a gate valve - is a good idea - but it probably won't stop your skimmer from shutting down. It just makes it easier to fine tune when it is properly running.

I'm just trying to figure out what is causing my skimmer to shut down now and then.

I am sure that the ro water is not the cause, every week or so I run ro water straight down the air intake of the skimmer to clean the intake out and it doesn't drop the foam level for more than a few seconds since their is no air going in.
