any wood bit will be fine.

I've used wood screws to mount standoffs in an acrylic hood. Just be sure to use a pilot hole. Can make a terrible screeching noise but does fine.

Acrylic taps well too if you have the tools.

For my own knowledge, I'm assuming that you need to use pretty coarse threads or they will rip out of the acrylic? Is it safer to just drill it through and use a bolt? Or do the screws hold well long term?
