Ok, I'm stumped!

So I was in the fish room and I had just finished installing my sink so I said to myself "what can I clean in my new sink?" I grabbed a dirty aquaclear 500, put it on the rim of the sink and started filling the sink. I went to plug in the aquaclear 500 into my power strip that runs my frag/rock tank but there was no room on the power strip. I unplugged a small powerhead and plugged in the aquaclear 500 then...silence. The powerstrip looked like it tripped and nothing was getting power. I hit the reset button and...nothing. Then I plugged in another powerstrip...nothing. Then I plugged into the outlet some christmas lights...nothing. I went to the breaker box and checked all of the breakers...nothing tripped at all. I am ALMOST positive that the outlet in the fish room is what is labeled in the breaker box as "unfinished GFI" because the fish room is the only unfinished room in the house. The funny thing is that the breaker that corresponds with that label (and any other breaker for that matter) is not a GFI breaker nor is the outlet a GFI outlet. So I am stumped, I don't have power to the frag tank, though I can run an extension cord to run things for the time being, but I am stumped as to what is going on with that circuit! Any ideas at all? Or do I have to start taking a sledge hammer to the walls to find some sort of GFI junction point?

Have you taken the outlet out of the box ? Maybe the wires are not connected inside the box.

You say that it's the only unfinished room, can you trace the cable that comes out of that box and see where it goes ? I am sure it's either that, or that particular outlet is connected to another GFI outlet which is tripped. (That one could be anywhere but usually pretty close)

I just found the problem, it was a GFI outlet on the same circuit tucked away in the furnace room that I hadn't noticed before. You were right frogbone.
