What have you guys used to make your own reflectors and where did you get it?

I'm looking for some sort of hammered reflective material in a little sheet so that I can make my own reflector.

What kind of UV shielding do you need to do for a halide bulb? I'm thinking a piece of UV glass below the bulb, but to leave the sides open so that I can cool it with massive airflow.

solar tubes for in house natural light can be flatend out and cut to make a reflector that rivals a lumenarch, might be able to hamer the dimples in and get the result your after.

Is a solar tube something I can get at home depot?

I'm under a pretty small depth constraint, so I'm going to have to make my own reflector. Its going to be all of about 4x6" and about 2" deep.

i know this is kinda old but i just use the metal duct tape you can get in the heating dept. its very reflective sticks to anything including wood and will stick even when under water, had it on my wood hood for 4 years and never peeled even when it was crusted with salt. plus its cheap and contours just like tape

I wonder how well that stuff would hold up the the heat of a metal halide right next to it.

Can you just get something like this and cut it up for what you need?

Is it single or double ended? Single ended bulbs don't need UV shielding.

SE bulbs look like they have an extra layer built into the bulb, is this why they don't need UV protection?

also, not to hijack, but is there a source for UV shielded glass around, and if so, will they cut to custom sizes?

 I thought all glass offered UV protection... perhaps I'm mistaken and you need a special kind.

I think all of it does but some is better. I figure whatever gets through one pane can't be worse than the sun. Whatever gets through two panes and 12" of water shouldn't be able to hurt me.

I'm having a glass shop make me a piece of tempered glass (for the heat) that I am using in my project.

on my new 70 watt DE bulb, it states that it has is already UV protected. Where'd you get your glass made? I think I'd like some just to be sure...

Well, they called me and told me it is too small to be tempered unless I went with thicker glass so I am going to use just plain 1/16th clear glass. If it breaks from teh heat, I'll have to figure something else out.

I think the place is called Northstar Glass. Its in Anoka/Coon Rapids just on the north side of the river.

You might be able to call IceCap or PFO and ask what kind of glass they use on their DE pendants. IIRC the glass on mine is a little thicker than 1/16"

If this breaks, then I'll try 1/8th. If that breaks, then I'll go to the 5/32 tempered.
