So, I have been getting more and more zoas over the last few months. I am starting to really enjoy my collection. But, I don't know if I should keep them separated or let them mingle. I am a little OCD and I have been keeping each zoa type separate on its own rock but I am starting to wonder if I should just let them go crazy. Should I worry about certain ones overtaking others?

ive always started them seperate and kept them that way as much as possible... some are faster growers and can sort choke out or stop growth... just my experiance, but i love a nice rock with 5-10 different zoas on it all mixxed together
i voted keep em seperate

I have been making sure that whatever I add to my tank is something that I know could possibly take over and that I would be ok with
My thought is, if it is cool enough - I dont care that it takes over.
I really like the way some of my frags have started to twist up together in the same spot yet on either side of the twist, they remain the solid colors they started with

They will especially if they are different types/sizes.

Yea. I know palys will on most occassions choke out zoas if on the same rock and I have been doing a good job of keeping those separated but its a lot harder with zoas. Once one weasels its way onto the rock its so hard to remove it.
I did find a really cool zoa the other day on the back of a rock covered in green bay packers. Its now on its own separate rock lmao!

Some more unintentional mingling going on. Bought this rock like this. Doesn't look too bad.

I have a very small frag of about 5 or 6 zoanthids that is mixed, I've just discovered a green one amongst some typical maroon colored ones and some watermelons. I was excited to see the green one as I think they are especially pretty. IMO, it's totally personal preference. I think it really depends on the look that you are going for.

I like my zoas/palys separated and apart from each other. The varieties I have I got because I like them for what they are and look forward to appreciating them individually instead of in one big mess.

As others have mentioned, usually the more expensives ones are for a reason slow growers. Hate to see the fancy ones get choked out by the cheapies....
I usually put them on the same rock a distance apart before they start to encroach I usually just cut the rock up sell the excess and start over on a new rock. Usually happens about once every year or two.

I voted to let them mingle, but I guess i'd only say that for certain situations... These zoas I bought this way and think it makes a nice combination since they all have green in them...
other zoas (like as DG was saying, expensive ones for example) i'd be more likely to keep separate.
