I picked up some Joker Palys at the swap last month and now that they have had time to establish and open up very well, I am noticing that they very much resemble or look almost identical to my Blue Ice Zoas I picked up about a year ago from a fellow member. Are these two really that close together that they could be mistaken for one another, or are they just like that?

The typical "Blue Ice" should not be mistaken for true Joker palys, but then people can often mislabel (or simply label with a name already used) different zoas and this can create confusion. It's one of the problems with the lack of a real naming system in place for zoanthids. Places like zoaid.com and others try to help, but aren't always a perfect fix.

These are true Jokers, so if you have anything that doesn't look like these, then they are not Jokers, and if they do and the others labelled Blue Ice also look like these, then the Blue Ice are "mislabeled".

This is the picture from when I pre-bought them for the swap and now in my tank they look almost like my frag of Blue Ice zoas. Seller could have bagged them incorrectly.

Those are definitely not true Jokers. The slight blue hue that you see in those is a trick of the light (not a camera trick, mind you) and they do not have the true deep purple polyps of a Joker. In my opinion those and others like Fire & Ice are not a true blue, but more of a grey/silvery color that reflects some of the blue from the light back under the right conditions. A true blue zoa, like blue supernovas or tubb's blues, will look blue even under a 10K bulb. The picture you provided does look like what I have seen sold as Blue Ice.

This is not my picture, but the picture of the guy who pre sold them to me at the swap. Mine show up more blue/bluish grey in my tank.
