Hey guys, anyone ever had zoos, just disappear. The zoos were a frag of about 25 to 30. They were healthy and open.....then I went home yesterday and poof!!!! gone. I have inspected every other zoo colony in the tank, about 15 in all.....no sign of any zoo eating nudi's. all the other colonies are doing great. The zoos in question were the bam bam orange ones. I got them at Harve's meeting from epedimic. Nothing new has been added, parameters are great...even magnesium. I even got out of bed this moring at 5am to check the display with the lights of.....nada. Any thoughts on what the heck happened:eek4: :eek4:

Do you have any urchins? I lost a small patch of zoos and I suspect it was the urchin who did it, in the tank, while I wasn't looking...

They fell, got knocked over, part of a new crab home, they are in there. Check down in your rock structure, actually move some rocks.....

hippo tangs have been observed eating zoanthids, do you have tangs?
some worms may eat zoanthids, have you checked out that 7ft worm found on oregonreef.com?
can nudis eat that many polyps that fast??
and last, perhaps they all detached at once?
I bet they will pop up sooner or later....

So is there any sign of the rock that they were sitting on? If you can find the rock, that may be one more clue to finding the culprit :cop:

The zoos were on a small round rock....it is still there, they were encrusted over the rock, picked up the rock...looked it over realllllllllllyyyyy good....nothing!! I have also looked until my head hurts for the nudi's and can't find anything....and all other colonies look great.
I do have a small urchin, but it is in the fuge,

Wow... that's really odd. And they ate everything overnight?
Sounds to me like you may have to start a new frag tank so you can keep your zoos safe from now on

I have a purple tang and a scopas that I have had for over two years. They never have bothered anything before. I think I will spend some time with a flashlight in there tonight after lights out again. The worm thing scares the crap out of me. It is weird they would detatch and float away....they were quite a few and were fully encrusted.

after some inspection I noticed some of the zoos heads were chewed off...the stump remained, but the flower cap was gone. I inspeced them very closely, still no predators found. Should I do an iodine dip or freshwater dip on the zoos....any ideas. I would just like to kill any predators I may not be seeing

I think I found the culprit....my SALLY LIGHTFOOT CRAB!!! This cab was in my 1st reef (29gallon) and is about 4 yrs old. I have never witnessed any problems. Last night I catch him pulling flesh from my RPE's!!!!!!!!!!!! Well this AM at about 5am I went down with a sharp, stiff syringe...I am gonna harpoon the B*****. Well of course couldn't see him, so I am back on recon tonight!!!

I know...and fast! I managed to smash the crab between the glass and net last night...but when I tried to grab it, it freaked me out and I dropped him..now I am gonna try to impale it with a syringe...then serve it on a cracker

:ac39: LOL... This whole thread is hilarious! I'm glad that you finally caught the bugger. I also had a naughty crab that was finally given a 'water burial' in a block of ice.

you should bring him into WOF if you catch him and we will throw him in the 180 or the 400 and watch him get taken care of
