Ah, some one beat me to it. What if this so called concern for Global Warming actually is result of crown of thorns starfish invasion?

I wonder if we could put people to work and deal with this at the same time. Want your unemployment check? Sign up and we will send you to a reef for a month to kill these things!

heck, I don't need a check. Just give me the gear, get me certified and point the way!

Hello,
People blaming global warming for all the coral death.

Sometimes I think that interfering with a predator like this can make things worse. Because, if we were to leave them alone then maybe they will clear an area then run out of food. But if we were to kill off half of them then it might just prolong the invasion and allow them time to spread out and find more food. This is why its so hard to know what to do when it comes to interfering with the environment. The same could be said about taking corals from the ocean, but who knows where the balancing point is. (Which I'm sure that line has been crossed.)

Hello,
People blaming global warming for all the coral death.

But no one with a good understanding of coral reefs blames all coral death on global warming, and the existence of other factors that kill corals does not invalidate the reality of high temperature as an important, real factor causing quite a lot of coral death in many areas around the world. One of the important points of this video, in fact, was that crown of thorns sea stars can have a synergistic effect on coral reefs in conjunction with anthropogenic factors, making these natural outbreaks of the sea stars potentially far more devastating now than in the past when coral reefs were otherwise healthy and could more easily recover from such predation.
