I wondered at first, but it's had that split mouth for the last couple years, so I'm thinking not. Then again, this mushroom does everything slowly, so who knows. It tends to propagate via budding around the foot.

I assume you don't want to frag them up like other mushroom. You know, like cutting.

The "Original".

Not sure of the species on this one (possibly a Rhodactis species), but it looks extremely similar to the amazing mushroom that Tubbs once had which he had called the Pink Nebula mushroom. After years of hunting, I never was able to track down any lineaged to him. Last year I came across these beauties and they appear to be very similar, though not quite the same. Probably my favorite mushroom next to the Tie Dye.

How do you find these corals. Before I saw your website I didn't even know there were cool mushrooms. Those tye dye ones should be featured on aquanerd or reefbuilders

Yeah, he's just a little misinformed. A lot of people think the Jawbreaker and Tie-Dye are the same because they are similar and so many have just taken to using the names interchangeably, but so far none of the Jawbreakers (which originated through a different source) have shown the coloration of the Tie-Dye mushroom. Also, you'll notice that his pic of the Ultimate Frags mushroom which he is calling a Jawbreaker is actually of my exact polyp, which is in my possession. That is the old pic that Rommel took before I bought it, so that polyp is in fact not his and any babies he is selling cannot claim lineage to it. The Tie-Dye I have was one of two original polyps to be sold after the rock was imported and bought by a collector in So-Cal some time in '04 or '05 I think. The other polyp was not sold through UltimateFrags but rather direct through the original owner and I know the person who has it. Anyway, the bottom line is that he may have gotten his hands on a polyp from the same lineage as mine, but it shouldn't be called a Jawbreaker as they come from different sources and his polyps wouldn't be from the polyp he pictured cause it's mine. Since it's the most famous polyp of its kind, I can see why people are always referring to mine to sell theirs, but I think that's borderline disingenuous since most of the time theirs have no direct relation to mine.
