I have an acrylic tank with a top brace. The top is 3/4 inch. I've been making a holder so I don't have to dump money into magnets. I used weldon 16 to glue acrylic to the maxi and then made an acrylic bracket that slides over the top brace. I used the rubber backer they make to keep rugs from sliding around to make a snug fit on the bracket and it works excellent. I will try to get a pic up in the next day or two here. Project took about 15 minutes using scrap acrylic (thanks Fritz, Li and Spazz) and the pair will save me $70 on magnets.

Yeah, you're right...I'll get the camera...Thing is, Mary and Dustin still have my mods, so pics will be of a MJ without the mod for now...

Ok here it is...For the top view I slid it to an angle so you could see the design a bit better. This could be easily done for a glass tank as well, using different thicknesses of acrylic to make up for the top trim offsets.

Have you tried using $10 X-Large petco magnets?

Some super glue and you're good to go and they hold very strong too. Assuming you're going to also do the new maxijet mods then super glue the magnets to the ball-joint bracket and you can mount it anywhere and aim it anywhere.

The gulfstream now has the 2,500gph kit.

I did it with my Sure Flow 1600 Maxi-Jet Upgrade Kit and I'm very happy with it and it holds strong.

Thanks Phil.

YinYang,
I already bought the mods, just need to pick them up from 5 miles down the road.
I may go the cheap magnet route if I need to move them, but these are just for added flow and the ideal spots are in each upper corner. With that in mind, these "free" brackets work well and I won't have to move them nor worry about them failing. Keep in mind my tank is 3/4 inch thick acrylic and the cheap magnets may not hold regardless.

I just tested a 1" thick cardboard and the magnet can't hold the maxi-jet's weight.

If you use neodymium magnets for sure it'll hold the maxijet's weight even with 1" thick acrylic.

These would be good.

I think I'm going to use these to mount monti cap & etc frags on the side of the tank.

:agree: took this route saved some buks & the coolest thing is if a placement dont work out moving is really easy...... like in my case inevitable sandstorms .
