My 2 Lysmata Amboinensis shrimp (cleaner shrimp) had babies and this is like the trillionth time I've seen them carry eggs and then see the babies floating around getting eatin. This time it was strange....... The babies hatched but MIA for a few days and some how I noticed my chromis going nuts eating something white being shot out of a small shell inhabited by a hermit crab. The hermit crab was popping in and out shooting baby shrimp. I take a closer look and they look like baby cleaner shrimp with tail and all. How did the baby cleaner shrimp get in there or are they baby hermit crabs?
I took the shell out and placed it in a fine mesh net in my fuge and the hermit crab keep shooting them out until there was none left then I put the hermit crab back into the display. So the babies are currently in a fine mesh net that they can't escape and what do you guys think I should try to do with them? Feed them to my chromis or try to raise them?

I remember once seeing a setup someone had for raising lysmata shrimp, but I think it was the fire shrimp... I'd bet that you could find it with a touch of googlin'

That's odd. Yesterday I had all these little white specs on my tank wall and floating around. It looked like little tiny translucent star fish. Some of my yellow polyps were closed like they just were fed. The only odd thing was a Zoa or Paly had a brown "string" coming from it's mouth and the one below it had a small bubble sticking out of its mouth that looked like the string. It just never came fully out. I haven't looked but didn't think that zoa/paly's produced sexually.

It was recently a full moon...

I wish I would just spend the money on a new Nikon D40x so I could have taken pictures.

I'm pretty sure Something Fishy has phyto growing. you could get a culture there..or maybe Troy has some.. he was looking into breeding, but I think he was still in the collecting info stage.

im most certain that those babies coming from the hermit were hermit babies. i had my hermits breed for me too. only have 1 cleaner shrimp and lots of hermits. and one night i saw tons of baby shrimp looking things in the water.

here some pictures for reference.

Tifosi: im pretty sure that that brown string/goo was just waste. my palys do the same thing.

That's what I expect. Odd that it coinsided with these little white things showing up all over.

I'll try to get a pic with my cheap camera.
